Be thankful that everyone is alive. If the hotel managed to work with you and relocate them to a similar hotel, that would be a plus.

I am. Which is exactly why I said as much in the first half of my comment.

First there was earthquake damage to the Westin in Napa and now this Sheraton. This has been an unlucky period for Starwoods in the western USA.

Has anyone stayed here since the renovations? I'm usually here 4-5 times a year and am curious how it's looking.

No where near done, check-ins are currently being done in another location on property.

Room video

Stayed here in late April, I think just a day or two after the renovation was done. Booked a king room and got upgraded to a 1br suite with 1.5 baths as titanium. No breakfast and got around 500 points a night, iirc. Very nice location; right in the centre of downtown Phoenix with lots of restaurants in walking distance. Gym was open but club lounge wasn't. There was a new lobby lounge that was open where I thought breakfast would be offered, but it wasn't. Rooms were really new and clean. Would come back and stay again.

A big nope from me!

(Note: This trip report is being written while I'm HANGRY due to the lack of a legitimate breakfast offering here - pardon the aggressive capitalization)

TERRIBLE breakfast offering here - incredibly "continental" offering 7 days a week from 6 AM to 8:30 AM (ridiculous hours) in the Club Lounge with no hot offerings. Even the store-bought pastries and yogurt tasted bad. I would not return due to this incredibly cheap and limited breakfast offering. There isn't even a restaurant in the hotel that serves breakfast if I wanted to buy it (so that might explain the poor offering) - what kind of full-service Sheraton doesn't have breakfast? This isn't a Four Points.

Okay, rant over (kind of)...

Pros:
  • Upgraded to a One-Bedroom Suite a couple of weeks before arrival (this upgrade stuck)
  • Suite on the 30th floor was generally nice - 1.5 baths, real door separation, attractive furniture, lots of outlets
  • TVs had Internet TV OS
  • Shower pressure wasn't bad, and the water was being softened
  • Nice view of Camelback Mountain
  • Club Lounge evening offering (Sunday - Thursday) had a delicious slice of chocolate cake
Cons:
  • Generally poor bed with incredibly thin covers - I got them to send up another blanket, which helped a bit. There was also an annoying mattress pad that crinkled underneath you. Pillows and the actual mattress were fine
  • Furniture looked nice, but was all pretty uncomfortable
  • Room wasn't ready until 5 PM
  • Dirty dishes sat outside my room from when I checked in for at least 18 hours
  • AFOREMENTIONED TERRIBLE BREAKFAST - how hard is it to make some eggs?
Overall, I would not stay again when there are better options (Renaissance) in the area. The Westin also had a poor bed experience and poor breakfast benefit when I stayed last year, so the legacy Starwoods aren't looking good in downtown Phoenix.

I had the exact same room as the poster above. By the way if you want housekeeping they don’t do that and they don’t tell you. Because you might complain.

You can’t call the front desk from your hotel room you’ll have to use your cell phone to do that ( I guess they want yo hear complains about housekeeping). they will bring your towels, thet are old and delivered with a lot of drama from the delivery person

I can’t imagine why I’d ever bother to stay here again

Well, at least there's a lounge! That still beats the Westin Phoenix Downtown, a block over to the west. There, the lounge is entirely shut down, no alternative is offered, and - if you want the 'free' Titanium breakfast - it's (1) a basic continental only, no exceptions, no substitutions, and (2) you need to request it as your welcome amenity, in lieu of points, even though they are keeping the lounge closed. (They also charge a resort fee that includes Internet access, but don't give any alternative to elite members, so you're paying for something that Bonvoy says you get for free.)

There are two other Bonvoy hotels in the vicinity - an AC and the Renaissance that you mention. Apparently the days when elite status came with meaningful perks haven't come back ... so some comparison shopping with other options might be in order.

Quite honestly, at least the Westin's continental had edible pastries and yogurt as well as a restaurant you could order a side of eggs from. The lounge does nothing for me if the offering is terrible. I actually couldn't eat any of the breakfast food because it all tasted so bad. It looked like there might have been a lobby bar offering with premade breakfast sandwiches, but that was probably going to more inedible food.

But, yes, the Renaissance would be where I would return for DT PHX, despite it being a bit worn.
