Two more weeks until our return to the Westin. I have to say they're customer service response time as well as the Sheraton is great.

I've been trying to reach someone via email at the Nines in Portland and haven't received any replies (been over a week now since first email). I'm reconsidering my stay there and may change to the Westin.

Anyways the Westin in Seattle is great. I am using my free weekend award and the hotel was able to at least up the room to a Deluxe High Floor room and also made note of our friends Priceline reservation.

My husband and I stayed at the Westin last Aug and received the master bedroom off the Presidential suite i'm not sure why i've waited a year to return.

We've made other trips to Seattle but usually with the kids so i've booked the Sheraton so we could use the club lounge and the kids like the rooftop pool.

Now that we're going back without the kids I'm glad to be returning to the Westin, I think the kids would like it as well but we save a little $ with getting a breakfast in the club lounge at the Sheraton. These two properties are running neck and neck for me right now.. very hard to choose between them. However my upcoming stay might be the tie breaker, I do like the beds better at the Westin. . hope all goes well and we can be near our friends room or possibly in a suite adjoining them!

You might want to try requesting one of the Imperial Suites in the North tower of the Westin. Had one on my last stay and it appeared that some of them adjoined. Agree that the Sheraton's lounge makes for an attractive offer when traveling with the kids. Too bad they don't have just one or two hot items in the morning.

As for me, despite the great upgrades and service at both the Sheraton and Westin, I continue to stay at the W. I'm not really sure why as my upgrades are never very good and the service is only average. It's like a soft version of going back to that abusive spouse thinking that this time will be different...but it won't. I guess I just like to be cool...

lol . . I've just always read so many poor reviews for the W i've been scared to try it. Plus I love when I get my emails answered right away and a bit of an upgrade before the usually "call before check-in" days.

On multiple occasions i've received very prompt replies from the reservation and guest service coordinators at both the Westin and Sheraton.

Our neighbors have never been to either and I hope we can show them a truly "nice" place, even if just for a night.

Sorry, I don't think this is funny at all. Too many women are victims of domestic abuse and to compare it to a bad hotel stay really isn't funny or cool imo. :td:

I thought it was a good analogy. . .just like the women in those situations. . they SHOULDN"T GO BACK.

Just got back from a 3-night stay (Thurs-Sun) at the Westin Seattle. Was booked on priceline for $80/nt (or about $95 with taxes & fees), which I think was a great rate for the summer season. SPG.com was at least twice that.

Check-in was very good. I provided my SPG Gold card, and requested a room on a high floor. She upgraded us to a "deluxe king" on 30th floor South tower. I assume the upgrade was just for the higher floor. The room seemed relatively standard. She also offered us the 4pm late check-out, but unfortunately we had a 7am flight. :( I know SPG doesn't give points for Priceline stays like Marriott does, but I did appreciate them offering the Gold benefits.

My main complaint about this property -- there is no sit-down restaurant for breakfast or lunch! Just a cafe that was kind of crowded. The main restaurant was only open for Dinner. Room service was available of course. But I still found it surprising that the Westin brand standards would allow the lack of a full-service restaurant for breakfast/lunch. Sign of the times I guess.

Still, a great value through Priceline, but I don't think I would stay here if I had to pay the regular published rates, which always seem too high relative to other properties.

A better analogy would have been about a bad meal at a restaurant, not the abuse of a human being. Just my opinion.

I just came back from the hotel and must say the service was far superior than the W, hands down. Staff was very nice and friendly.

The room was not that worn....but they did a pretty bad job renovating. It's like, they only did the bare minimum to make the rooms acceptable. The building itself is very very old so they tried covering some of the walls with new wall paper and paint and put in new furniture, but kind of stopped there. The door knobs and some of the details in the room was left from the 60s (kind of reminded me of Westin Bonaventure).

However, they upgraded me to an amazing suite, the 2 story Rainier Suite ^. It was about the size of 4 standard rooms plus a staircase leading to the loft on the 40th floor in the South Tower (top floor). The view was pretty good and that suite was so big it was kind of scary :p It was about 1/3 of the building including the interior part (1500+ sq ft). It had a separate kitchen with a separate service entry in the back that lead to the service elevator. I must say, since our stay was around Halloween, that suite was extra spooky and would've been the perfect place for a party. Too bad I didn't take advantage of it. It was also a great suite for celebrities since they could enter and leave the suite from the service elevator in the back without anyone seeing them.

With heavenly bed and white tea stuff as well as good service from the staff, I was very happy with my stay. I will post some pics shortly.

Wow just seeing this after several months. Unfortunately, you took the leap on your own to suggest I was talking about physical violence and toward women no less. Jeez.

Let's be honest, there's lots of couples that get into each other's heads and that goes for BOTH sexes.

Let's not get accusatory before you think it through all the way.

Congrats Bliss-

We've had a few of these awesome upgrades over the years and it certainly cements my *wood loyalty.

Didn't get one at our recent Westin Seattle stay but you've given me something to hope for !

BlissWorld:
All I can say is Wow, Wow, Wow.
I am not worthy. I am a lowly Gold.
Actually, as Gold have received better room at Seattle Sheraton than Westin and would choose Sheraton again as Gold. Westin room was NOT anywhere as nice as Gold.

But, if I ever get to Plat........

Quasiconvexity Nov 24, 2009 9:47 am

I dont think most Plats get the type of upgrades Bliss does :D

Nice Suite but a Very Tired Hotel

I stayed one night here and that was certainly enough. The location is good, but downtown Seattle is not that large and walkable, but there is the rain to consider.

Service is nice, corporately efficient, and got a Plat upgrade to a Governor's Suite in the North Tower on 47th floor. The North Tower is definitely newer, taller, and is where the pool and fitness rooms are.

The interior pics that Blissworld showed above pretty much capture the look, but I must say that in person, the carpets, furniture, bedding, fixtures, and soundproofing were very dated. Right out of the early 80's, and not in a good/kitschy type of way either. Desperately in need of a refurb IMHO.

I apologize for the dark interior, but I wanted to show the view moreso than the room which Bliss did better than me.

I did get a great view of Puget Sound, EMP, and the Space Needle. And look at the liquid sunshine!

Westin versus Sheraton Seattle

Will travel to Seattle in September. Would appreciate advices of which hotel to pick. - Westin vs Sheraton. Factors important are (1) Plat Suite upgrade chances (2) club - particularly breafast as we will probably outside in other time, (3) general condition of the hotel, rooms, etc.
