I think this promo targeted new cardholders who are about to hit their 1yr mark, and spend a reasonable amount of $$ on the card per month that they would want to retain them. Many people cancel the card after the 1st year, when the annual fee comes up (little as the fee may be, it's still > 0). You have to be an active cardholder to receive the bonus miles, which post 3 or so months after the end of the promo period according to the postcard.

Unfortunately I don't believe there is any referral bonus going on right now. It's too bad because I have about 5 co-workers who are waiting for me to forward them the info on the SPG card to sign up. I can't figure out why they don't have a referral bonus all the time...even if it is only a couple thousand points.

spg business amex (new accts only): 1k spg bonus for each add'l card (max 5k)

sorry if this is a repeat, but i recently received a letter offering a 1k spg bonus for each additional card (max = 5 cards/5k spg) if i open a new spg business amex card. this is in addition to the 10k spg that is standard now, for a potential total of 15k spg's. first year is free.

call: 1-877-432-8845
mention RSVP code: 11 XSA

doesn't appear targeted, as i asked "what name is associated with this offer?" and there was none.

hope someone can benefit.

We also rec'd the letter....we had just 2 weeks ago signed up for the bus. cards and just rec'd the cards last weekend. Now, we could have gotten extra points for our additional card! Boo! We'll have to call and see how (if!)they will accomodate us!

You can get 2500 points for each additional card... see post 172 in this thread:

cabrits May 11, 2007 8:19 pm

are you sure this is for 2500k bonus?

oliver,

i clicked the link on your post #172, and was led to a page where i can add additional cards. however, there was no indication anywhere that this comes with a 2500k bonus? it appears that a few people are still waiting for their bonuses.

have you personally used this link to add cards, and received your bonus(es)?

shar161 May 12, 2007 12:08 am

Oliver..the post you noted was for the REGULAR AMX starwood card, not the business card. I remember that whole thread and we did at the time get an extra 2500 points for getting an additional card on our regular account.

Problems with SPG AX points posting

It used to be that, like clockwork, I would get two entries to my SPG account about 4 days after the close of my Starwood Amex month.

One would say "SPG AX - STARWOOD SPEND CNSMR" and the other would say "SPG AX BASE SPEND - CONSUMER." The first would be the bonus for Starwood spending on the card, and the second would be for all spending on the card. Since I only use this card at Starwood, the line items were always identical.

The last two months have been problematic. In April, only the "SPG AX BASE SPEND - CONSUMER" line showed up. For May, only the "SPG AX - STARWOOD SPEND CNSMR" line showed up.

I phoned Amex today to rectify. For April, the amount was small (122 points), and so Amex is just crediting me 250 courtesy points. For May, the amount was large (nearly 6k). The "specialist" looked into it and said that she posted points, which I should see within 24 hours.

Has anyone else experienced difficulty in the past month or so with propoer posting of AX points?

Cap'n Adventure May 15, 2007 3:30 pm

FWIW, it's a different link and set of dates than the April-June 25% promo from the previous thread. Also, I wasn't eligible for the earlier promo.

Yes, I had a problem with points posting from my Starwood Business Acct. this past week. The statement closed last week. Usually I get my points in my SPG account w/in 2 days. Well, it didn't happen this time.

When I researched it a bit on my own, I saw that my paper statement (viewed online) didn't show any points in the upper right hand corner of the front page of the bill. Nor was there any "Starwood Point Activity" just below the area where AMEX posts finance charge info.

So, I called AMEX and got an imbecile of a rep and then asked for a supervisor. Then I got a bigger imbecile of a supervisor. She kept telling me that the points always post with a month's lag time. (don't you hate when you know more about a product than the product's producer?)

Long story short - I was promised a call back from her supervisor. 3 days later I spoke to a well mannered and very knowledgeable supervisor. She told me that AMEX is aware of a problem in the past week or so with points posting. They are working feverishly to fix it. I was told that my points should post before my next closing date.

This doesn't describe the OP's problem exactly, but I hope it helps somebody.

Aloha

As expected:

We're sorry. This Card is not eligible.
We're sorry. Our records indicate that you are not eligible for this promotion.

freebee May 15, 2007 4:41 pm

On a related note, just called Amex because I didn't get double points for charges at the Westin Aruba in March. They are looking into it; I suspect the problem is that the charge says "Aruba Resort" rather than "Westin Aruba Resort"; apparently, they are unaware that it became a Westin last December.
