Singlepoint, you did not state, are you Platinum? If so, then you got had paying even $25/day extra as the setup you described is their suite setup at this property.

I am Plat and I asked the same question at the front desk. They said that the best upgrade they offered Plats was to a club level room. They considered this more of a "specialty" suite. I wasn't too impressed with this fact. In the end, however, considering that the extra room was a completely separate room etc, I didn't feel that $25/nt was too bad. Let me know if you stay there whether you (or others) receive the setup I described comped as the upgrade as it will provide me with more leverage the next time I stay there. Cheers, Singlepoint |
Really Enjoying my stay
I am really enjoying my experience here so far. Really good Plat treatment. It's very clean and feels comfortable (mind at ease). I really like the traditional decore. The staff at the front desk are quick and helpful with questions about the area. I have taken a lot of pictures of the room on foursquare (gotta love the 250 points).

How do they keep the lights on?
Here now, Place is a tomb-just like it was on my stay last week. Upgraded to Club level-regular room.
Dated room with tired furniture and decor. Grounds are very nice. This was probably a very popular location for meetings/events at one point in time. I don't think that is the case now. Staff is nice. Lounge evening offerings are nice- breakfast nothing extraordinary It is a bit of a drive to get to anywhere interesting in Phoenix from this hotel. But that is Phoenix in general :D I have to wonder how long this property will remain a Sheraton ? |

Just stayed here and as others report upthread, it is very very quite. I think in my wing of say 20 rooms on the 6th there were 3 rooms occupied. I was upgraded to a 2 room suite it was nice. Although bedroom was modern the family/dining room was older. Square footage about 1000 SF, double doors with two separate doors to each room, both of which had full bathrooms.
Overall ok property, just very quiet. The only issues besides being very very quiet were a few bugs (small spider in my bed and a gnat on the jumped on me in the bathroom). Plus very dark hallway to my room. Feel free to read my full review here http://whereisrahul.com/2014/07/17/r...hotel-phoenix/. As an aside SPG and the hotel saw it somewhere online and emailed me today to inquire about my concerns. I have not talked to them yet but will and will report back. I appreciate that they wanted to talk to me. |
Nicely renovated club rooms
Stayed two weeknights mid-August 2014 at a corporate rate (SPG Gold). Mid-August in Phoenix is dead, with hotel rates all over town at their annual nadir.
SPG Gold recognition: At check-in, club was offered as a $10 per night upgrade. After some back and forth it was comped 'just this one time'. The seventh floor club room showed its recent renovation was out to the walls: new carpet, cove base molding, furniture with outlets both on desk and bedside. New NOT sunken in the center bed. Wireless but not wired internet. Blackout curtains. The original cast iron tub (my favorite!) but everything else new in bathroom. Safe in closet was old, key operated. Nice new robe hanging in closet and also a folding luggage stand. I asked for extra towels and they arrived immediately. The club itself was compact with ample food offerings and a great Jura grind and brew to demand coffee maker. I filled out the post-stay survey and noted the check-in / club sequence. A front office manager rapidly responded by email that except for very high occupancy periods the complementary club upgrade is when possible routine. Overall I liked this property very much and will return. 48 hours after check-out, Green Choice points have not posted. I suspect that I'll have to call SPG. |

Cheers, Singlepoint Sorry that it has been YEARS since I responded to this, but this was indeed the complimentary suite upgrade that I received at the time for being a Platinum member. It is also the same complimentary upgrade that I received tonight as a Platinum member, so unfortunately it does sound like they took advantage of you. |
Stay Report - 4/4 - 4/7
Location: The hotel is located in North Phoenix on I-17 and Dunlap Avenue. There isn't much up here tourism wise but due to its proximity to the freeway it's not a bad base of operations if you're planning to hit other parts of Arizona or parts of the Valley that aren't Tempe/Scottsdale. Across the freeway is a large mall called Metrocenter which has a movie theater and plenty of chain restaurants as well as Castles and Coaster which is a great mini golf spot. On this side of the freeway is a gas station and a decent dive bar called O'Connor's plus a Denny's and a Fuddrucker's. PHX is about a 20 minute drive and Tempe is a half hour. https://photos.smugmug.com/Travel/Fl...IMG_5967-L.jpg Hotel: I was pleasantly surprised by the hotel in general and very surprised by its size. It has a large parking garage (with free parking) and a lot of event space including off the lobby and across the parking lot. There are also two swimming pools, one of which is really large and one of which as a water slide and a number of on site tennis courts. There's a big lobby with a business center, seating areas, a bar and a large restaurant and on the 7th floor there's a Club Lounge https://photos.smugmug.com/Travel/Fl...IMG_5966-L.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Travel/Fl...IMG_5964-L.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Travel/Fl...IMG_5965-L.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Travel/Fl...IMG_5959-L.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Travel/Fl...IMG_5960-L.jpg Check In: My lone knock against this hotel. I arrived at 10:30 PM and had an agent who didn't care about status recognition. She gave me my keys and sent me on my way and I had to remind her I was Titanium and to ask about the lounge and breakfast. https://photos.smugmug.com/Travel/Fl...IMG_5956-L.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Travel/Fl...IMG_5957-L.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Travel/Fl...IMG_5958-L.jpg Room: I was "upgraded" to a larger King on the Club Floor. The room itself is a little on the older side (think 1990s Sheraton) but nothing was overly negative. There was a small sitting area, large TV, desk area, outlets near the comfortable bed and a decent sized bathroom with a shower that got impressively hot. There was also a balcony which overlooked the pool. Soundproofing was also pretty good. Dining: I was given coupons for a breakfast buffet in the restaurant each day. These coupons were only for the buffet and could not be applied to the menu. The buffet had scrambled eggs, scrambled eggs with chorizo, sausage, bacon, breakfast potatoes, waffles and breads, cereal and fruit. The lounge was open weekends and I had breakfast there two days. Each day there were scrambled eggs plus bacon and sausage, fruit, yogurt and breads. The staff there are really good. https://photos.smugmug.com/Travel/Fl...IMG_5961-L.jpg Club floors are 7-8 and are connected by a stairway https://photos.smugmug.com/Travel/Fl...IMG_5963-L.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Travel/Fl...IMG_5962-L.jpg I was surprised by how pleasant a hotel this was, if the price is right it's absolutely worth staying at. |
