Unacceptable is right … The OP needs to return and name the hotel …

exactly, it's not "I expect better at a ritz" because this is just table stakes for literally any hotel. No one should ever think "well this is OK because you're just at a courtyard" and if they do I would love for them to elaborate on their thinking.

Just avoid all RCs and you'll be good ;)

It was the RC in New Orleans. The hotel made it right by switching me to an upgraded room the next morning, as well as points after I emailed the GM.

Nah, some are AOK. RC at Naples, Florida (the beach resort, not the golf resort) has always been one of my favorite hotels. But generally I prefer StR to RC properties.

RCs have very good lounges, but the cost of getting into them is high. In the past, status got one into a few LC lounges, including the very good one at Prince Gallery Tokyo.
