Humorous Rate Information

I was recently in the app looking to book a property. I clicked on details to see what the promotional rate included. This is what showed up.

Boy am i glad i didn't pick any of the other rates. This was the only one where you get Overnight Accommodations included! I could just see booking a regular rate, showing up and being told "oh you didn't book overnight Accommodations." "Didn't You look at the rate details to see if it included Accommodations?" No room for you, get to sit at the table in the waiting area.

Had a good laugh cause of this and thought I'd share.

They didnt say that you get to charge your phone in their rooms though, so you better fix that before traveling!

Funny, though the 6% battery remaining would have me panicking. :p

Electricity is not included in the rate.
So charge the phone will incur extra charge.

I don't think I've ever let my phone get below 40%, even after a hurricane.

It surprised me to see that Holiday Camps in the UK often have separately-metered electricity, not included with room rate, same with linens being extra. You have to feed coins into the electric meter.

I know in SE Asia, frequently electric is separate from room. If you want AC (and who really doesn't in most these places) you have to buy a top up card at front desk. (Or insert credit card, etc) At best you get one light in the room provided for free. Heck if you want hot water, you have to pay for electric for water heater.

Last month I stayed at a Fairfield Inn that had a promotional "Bed and Breakfast" rate which was by far the lowest of the available rates, even though all guests get a bed and breakfast there.

Aren't there a lot of prostitutes in Nawlins? Perhaps overnight bookings aren't required. ;)

Ha.

Yes, there are day rates in many hotels. So if you want to stay overnight, better pick the right rate.

At Marriott properties? I've never experienced that during travels in Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Hong Kong, or Singapore.

Definitely not at Marriott properties. Or Hyatt properties. Or even Hilton properties…

FlyerCO, this happens at guest houses in SEAsia, typically orders of magnitude less expensive than regular hotels.

Frequently? I have never heard of/encountered this in even the cheapest guesthouses/hotels in Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, etc doing this for nighty (or even weekly) stays. Closest thing would be getting a text from my Airbnb host in Ho Chi Minh City that the electric meter app showed usage has spiked since I moved in, and asked if I could run the a/c less. Anyway, none of this is germane to a conversation about Marriott or any other chain hotels worldwide.

Yes, day rates (Day Use Rates) are a thing in the Marriott-verse with a page on the website and Special Rates search code (ZDY). So it's not entirely out of left field for a property to specify a rate including overnight use. But yea, it does look funny especially in certain markets... For example, during the Great Plague, when Vietnam was in full lockdown, Le Meridien Saigon had a special rate for non-overnight use. It made perfect sense at that time: movement was extremely restrictive and one would need to get a PCR test that could take 5-6 hours from swab to result to be allowed to leave for another province. Even understanding that context, I couldn't not chuckle a bit, as "day use" accommodation in that city has a very specific connotation.

I've had happen at plenty of hotels. Not saying Marriott/Hilton properties. (In numer of places therecsimply aren't many/any Marriott/Hilton brand properties) However actual hotels, not guest houses.

I remember few years back, one chain was thinking of bringing this model to UK.

Belowis a TPG article about this type thing in Europe.
