Yes, day rates (Day Use Rates) are a thing in the Marriott-verse with a page on the website and Special Rates search code (ZDY). So it's not entirely out of left field for a property to specify a rate including overnight use. But yea, it does look funny especially in certain markets... For example, during the Great Plague, when Vietnam was in full lockdown, Le Meridien Saigon had a special rate for non-overnight use. It made perfect sense at that time: movement was extremely restrictive and one would need to get a PCR test that could take 5-6 hours from swab to result to be allowed to leave for another province. Even understanding that context, I couldn't not chuckle a bit, as "day use" accommodation in that city has a very specific connotation.
Seen plenty of "day use only rates." They do specifically state that since the rate is not supposed to include overnight accommodation. This is why I laughed, hotel rates by default are for overnight accommodation. If a rate doesn't include that, then they need to state that. Ie day use only, or pool use only, etc...
