In-App Checkout Button

When you check out in the app, the time is fixed to the standard checkout time. If I'm checking out at, say, 7:00 AM, does the property get notice that I've "checked out?" Do they treat that as notification they can go clean/turn the room?

I'm in the habit of checking out in the app and then using the chat to let them know I've left (once I'm en route away from the hotel). I've gotten the impression from a few employees that the property doesn't know I've already left when I just use the checkout button, and it feels courteous to let them know the room's ready for them..

Thoughts?

Yes, but not within the property management system. The entire mobile check-in/checkout platform is a web based interface that very minimally interacts with the PMS and has to be monitored separately. Some hotels are better than others about monitoring that system for mobile chat requests, checkouts, etc.

Currently, Marriott hotels operate with one of four PMS (FSPMS, Lightspeed, Opera, or FOSSE). "In the near future" (for several years now), Marriott will standardize their PMS for all hotels and everything will be better integrated and these types of mobile app/hotel interactions will be streamlined.

Makes you wonder why they even bothered to make this functionality.

The app checkout button creates a case in GXP, which is a customised version of Salesforce CRM. GXP is also behind the requests buttons in the app, if you request a certain amenity this creates a case. The property responds to the live chats through GXP also.

So essentially the app checkout and the live chat are all on the same platform. Although as others have noted this is quite stand alone to the PMS system. Some properties are much better than others with checking GXP.

As a side note any corporate created feedback or cases also are managed through this system.

I never use it anymore. I had a hotel once charge me for an additional night during Covid when I used it to checkout and avoid contact. They reversed the charges, but the hour+ of follow up phone calls means I just take 1 minute to do it live since.

I am surprised to hear this. Many hotels just assume you leave and check you out, whether you check out or not

I never bother to 'check-out', and somehow usually before I'm 20 mins from the hotel I get my email with the final folio...I expect that at most properties the housekeeping is so aggressive that they know before I've hit the lobby that I've vacated the room and they can turn it!

Very true. They watch like hawks. If I pass them on the way to the elevator Ill wish them a good day and give them my room number.

I do exactly the same...but if it's past 10 AM they've probably knocked on the door 2x asking what time I'm leaving...DND sign seems to mean nothing...not so bad if I'm leaving in the AM, not so cool if I have a 4pm check-out confirmed as a LTT.
