Attaining status with Marriott Bonvoy

Hey all.

I am new to Marriott Bonvoy. I have been a member of Marriott Bonvoy (after merging with SPG). I am based in the UK and have 6 nights booked under this hotel brand 2 nights with Moxy and another 3 nights with Marriott.

How does the loyalty programme work? Both hotels are booked and paid for by work using corporate card so I booked directly. One of them costs £250 and the other is £291. The Moxy one also has a 3000 bonus points 'per stay'.

Will I be getting 5 status nights and will be 5 nights away from Silver status and will the currency be converted to USD and be added to my account after?

Thanks all

Yes, as long as you directly booked through the Marriott website, you should get the appropriate benefits. This presumes you will be presenting your corporate credit card as the form of payment, and not some sort of direct-bill arrangement.

You will get one Elite Qualifying Night (EQN) for each night you stay (halfway to Silver!), and earn redeemable points based on a multiple of the (USD) cost of your stay.

Hi, thanks for all this!

Yea I will be presenting my corporate credit card to them.

In that case, my transactions will be converted to USD and get the standard 10 points per 1 USD?

If I am halfway to Silver, I might as well book personal stays as there are some good deals at the moment. Are the benefits worth it?

The Marriott website sets forth the benefits.

The FT consensus is that the most worthwhile benefits don't begin until Platinum Elite.

You can get a 15-EQN head start each year by obtaining the Marriott BONV°Y AmEx card with an annual fee of £95, in which case 10 more nights would get you to semi-worthwhile Gold Elite status. :)

J343 , call Marriott Bonvoy customer service, inform them you're switching to / starting Bonvoy, and ask for Platinum Challenge 16 nights within 90 days and you are Platinum.

You will have 5 nights after your work trip , then just 11 more nights paid with MONEY (not Points) if Bonvoy gives u the Plat Challenge. To keep the Plat , you need 50 nights and those 10 by UK Credit card ofc help.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention! It's tempting but I don't think 11 nights is doable in 90 days. I have holidays booked in February and March already which unfortunately won't be in any Marriott hotels.

How on earth did this comment go unnoticed? Usually this triggers a 10 page thread of people fighting over non-existent suite upgrades.

Funny as Platinum I’ve never received better upgrades than when I was Gold anyway. Breakfast benefits aside, Gold is pleasant for casual stays where you are happy with a slightly better room with a better view.

I’m aware this forum disagrees.

I feel like I haven’t gotten a spontaneous or “space available” upgrade in like 2 years. That said, whenever I’ve applied my SNA certs (now NUA certs) I’ve gotten into the highest rooms!

so I just save those certificates for trips where upgrades may be more valuable to me.

Platinum also gives you club lounge access at participating brands (no Ritz Carlton). I did get more upgrades with Platinum Elite vs Gold.

Speaking directly to OP as a fellow European I can say that I feel hamstrung by the status requirements. Americans have a significant advantage being able to attain status far more easily through various CC schemes of which there is far less offering on the other side of the Atlantic.

That's not to say that there aren't attractive parts of MB. Attaining points and spending them on redemptions in lavish places across the world is something very appealing about the program due to its width and quality of participating brands. Unless you're a family then, as Marriott artificially caps most rooms at low occupancy.

Hey guys!

How’s everyone doing?

So Marriott has just released their new global promotion where in members get extra 1000 points per eligible night AND one elite night qualification per night.

I already have 5 nights booked which I understand with this promotion will get me to Silver before the end of April.

I have found some pretty good deals for mid April for 3 nights around the UK (I work remotely and at home) and thinking of booking them. Just an additional question, once I reach Silver after 10 nights, will my new status be valid for the rest of this year AND next year? Also, what will happen to the extra nights after qualifying? Will they count towards Gold or be carried over next year if I don’t reach Gold this year?

Thanks all!

Your Silver status acquired this year will be valid through to Feb 2026, but there are no rollover nights.
Don't expect anything special from Silver though (or even Gold).

Thank you!

So just to clarify, if I reach Silver and don’t bother getting Gold, it will be valid through to February 2026?

When I get Silver, will the nights reset to zero and start from zero and earn 25 nights or will I get Gold after getting the additional 15 nights to get Gold?

I guess the extra bonus will come in handy and don’t normally expect upgrades. I did however get an upgrade as an SPG member(non elite) at the Westin Doha several years ago.
