Stuck in an elevator at a Springhill Suites in Newark CA

It has been about an hour so far. Everyone I call is very nice, but I am still here. The elevator help people say a tech is coming in another hour or so.... Any longer I guess it will be my 1st 911 call.

This morning I actually notified them about the door, there was a cable hanging loose when it opened. Not fixed I guess.

Fire dept. to the rescue. Very nice, very professional.

Huh.... why didn't the hotel call 911 10 minutes after you got stuck? Did they really think it was okay to wait 2 hours until a tech person could show up.

This happened in my condo once and the management company was really adamant that they didn’t want me to call 911… I gave it a good 30 min and then called 911 and the fire department had me out within 10 min of the call. (And the next day I discussed with w a HOA board member and she called the property manager and really had it out with him.)

Now, there's an elevator I would not be enthused by...

In all seriousness, OP, I'm glad you're okay, and emergency services should have been involved. The priority should be guest safety - I can only imagine the legal troubles the hotel could have had if you had undergone medical distress while stuck because the hotel told you not to call emergency services to expedite your departure from the elevator.

Now, the important question. Did you establish a pee corner?

Eons ago, I was stuck in an elevator. The elevator operator was completely useless telling me that the only tech was an hour away and working on another call. I called the non-emergency number for the fire department and was out in ten minutes. The company asking you not to call emergency services is 100% for the elevator company's benefit, not yours.

i wouldn't call 911, i would call the non emergency fire/police dept though.

Stuck in an elevator I am not going to take the time to research the " non-emergency" number. Being trapped in an elevator is a justifiable reason to call 911. Here is our county in Washington State , 911 is used for ALL calls, emergency or not, when police and fire needs to be contacted. The stigma of when to call 911 is a hard to re-learn from what we were taught.

This. I get stuck in an elevator and the hotel manager says it's going to take 2 hours, my next call is 911.

And the property’s benefit. In many jurisdictions, the local fire department will charge the property owner for the visit.

After I was freed I just went back to my room and carried on. I didn't make an issue of it.

Sitting on an elevator floor for an hour or so on a Sunday afternoon makes you reflect on things a bit though.
