Points/ Ambassador Spend for Multiple Rooms

Hi Everyone,

I have a few questions about booking multiple rooms. I understand that you only earn elite nights in the room you personally stay in. However:

When booking 2 rooms on 2 separate reservations, do you:

1) Get Bonvoy points for both rooms? Marriott states you can get credit for up to 3 rooms, but the Marriott TOS don't seem to state whether they have to be on the same reservation.

2) Get Ambassador spend credit for both rooms?

Thank you so much for your help. I did call Marriott Titanium Support but as usual, I got conflicting info.

BTW, Marriott does encourage booking two separate reservations in some cases, as shown here:

Have you tried asking the Ambassador "team"?

If you are staying and paying for it all, ask the property to roll all the charges to your room. Makes it easier to followup if the charges from that one room folio don't post...

Have done this tons of times

Yes, you should get points for both rooms and they can be on the same or different reservations. As for the spend, I'd think your spend on both rooms should count. I don't remember seeing anything against it the T&Cs, but I've never been an Ambassador. So have never really scrutinized all the Ambassador spend rules.

And as YYJMSP states, rolling all the charges onto a single folio will probably make things a little less complex for you.

Basic room charges and meals charged to the rooms (YMMV if the restaurant is some separate entity from the property) appear to count properly to Ambassador spending

Everything else is inconsistent, such as parking, resort fees, spa, etc. Sometimes it counts, sometimes it doesn't.

Meeting charges (room, equipment, banquet, etc) never seem to count

Doesn't seem to matter if it's billed as separate folios or a single folio. Even overlapping folios (ie one room arrives before or leaves after others) seems to work for spending, but not for nights credit (looks like it always follows the room with the first checkout)

Quickest way to check is take base points posted, divide by 10, and that tells you how many USD counted.

To clarify, when checking in, ask if the hotel can put everything onto a single folio? Thank you.

At check-in, ask them to transfer all of the charges to your room folio at the end of the stay. Remind them the night before checkout (the night people usually process it all) , and again at checkout.

this isn't really necessary.. as long as your account number is on the reservation and you pay for it, it's already set. doing this can create billing issues, especially if the fd makes a mistake. you will get points for up to 3 rooms and stay/night credit for 1 room as per t and c's...

An update.

I emailed Marriott Bonvoy and got the reply in writing.

Yes, provided all the terms are met, you will earn Ambassador spend credit for up to 3 rooms. This assumes that you personally pay for all of the rooms and that you stay in at least 1 of the rooms.

I have called the ambassador desk and they can do it for you, you can also have the hotel combine everything onto one portfolio sometimes.

Updating here, everything turned out successful:
  • I made 2 separate reservations, both in my time, for the dame dates and times, for 2 rooms total.
  • The hotel charged my credit card twice for each room
  • I had two folios and received two bills
  • I paid for both rooms using a credit card in my name
Marriott posted the points for both rooms in a single transaction. Also, I received ambassador spend for both rooms. However, as expected, I only received elite nights for 1 room.

That's how it is supposed to work.

A few questions about Ambassador qualified expenditure.
1.
Do you need to do anything while check in? Meaning you telling the front desk that charge the other room to my room even it is different reservation?

2.
And also, another scenario.
My upcoming reservation is 1/25~26, 1/26~29, 1/29~31.
My colleague reservation is 1/25~31.
If I pay for his room, will I get the Ambassador qualified expenditure? Or it has to be the same check in and check out?

Thank you
