I'm surprised this hasn't happened with alligators since there are many large alligators in the ponds and lakes of most Marriott properties in Orlando.

Really people are buying that this is somehow Marriott's fault? I feel bad for the girl for getting her leg torn up but I don't see the need to apportion blame to Marriott. Somehow folks think they can go anywhere and whatever happens to them has to be blamed on someone, no doubt some sleaze-ball lawyer will get involved and there will be a payout. I vaguely remember seeing signs when I stayed there several years ago, but the water wasn't very clean looking and I had no inclination to swim in it anyway.

I don't think Marriott showed good faith here... apparently they didn't even have large signs warning guests about crocodiles. Disney knew for years that it had a serious alligator problem and didn't take action until an innocent infant was killed by one... the family wasn't from Florida so they really weren't aware about alligators at Disney's own resorts.

IMO, that's a pretty large sign. Not sure you can expect anything bigger.

This resort is on the ocean. It’s not like an inland pond in Florida where a nuisance alligator can be trapped and relocated. It is no different from a shark attack. I hope the young woman recovers fully, but really difficult to blame Marriott.

Stayed there many times. Yes, there are signs as you step off the sidewalks onto the beach. There are also signs if you walk around the marina or the gulf course in the same area. The resort is located near a river mouth so people should expect wildlife. No different than a shark attack. Insane to blame Marriott.

So it is Marriott's fault that people did not use their brains given the location of the hotel? Got it. Vacation means leaving the brain at home. That sign has a picture of a stingray, a jellyfish, a crocodile, and some other animal. Honestly, just seeing the pictures of the stingray and jellyfish is enough to warn you to be careful about going into the water or being on the beach. There are also two phone numbers listed with one of them being 911, which should alert you that it is a sign with some safety warning. Having google translate or some other translate app on your phone is a good idea if you are going somewhere, and you do not know the local language.

At a minimum, everyone who travels should do an online search about the risk of wildlife in the area they are traveling to. If you go to Alaska, even just Anchorage, do not be surprised if you see a grizzly bear or Alaskan moose, and they are not the type of wildlife you should provoke. The hotel can hang up as many signs as possible, and someone will find a way to ignore them and blame the hotel for their failure to take some personal responsibility for their own safety. Parents have the responsibility to make sure their children understand what safety risks are involved at the hotel or resort of their stay.

And good ol awful tripadvisor deleted a lady's review that gave the property 1 star describing how she and others helped the woman escape the alligator. The reviewer criticized the hotel, gave it 1 star and after a few days the review magically disappeared! Obviously Marriott contacted tripadvisor and they once again looked out for the hotel and removed the critical review. It's so sick. Tripadvisor did the same thing when women posted reviews of a hotel that they were sexually assaulted. And it took a public outcry for tripadvisor to publicly apologize for removing those reviews and said they made a mistake.

It's such a joke, tripadvisor used to be my go to review site but they have shown to be a slimy company who favors the properties over the guest.

Shouldn't this fall under the category of when you're in their territory you need to watch out for them? She's lucky to be alive; they move faster than one might think. Glad to know she'll be okay, granted that when you're on vacay you don't normally think about this unless it's a safari.

TripAdvisor has a policy to require someone to post their own experience at the hotel. It was not clear whether she was staying there.

There are rare alligator attacks here and there, but for the most part they're incredibly docile. Crocodiles are a totally different ballgame.

She talked about her room being moldy smelling and the service from the staff......so yes she was staying there
