Marriott Testing New Website Design

Apologies for starting a new thread as I couldn't find the post I saw a couple of weeks back about a new website design being tested, but I can confirm that a new design is definitely being tested to bring the website more in line with the new design vision seen in the iOS mobile app. As you can see, the layout is much more image-focused. For me, this design only appears for a couple of properties, but it seems to be property-based, rather than session-based, as the design appears for these few properties even after clearing cookies.

Any thoughts on this new design?

Shrug. I care more about function over form.

Not only that but isn’t it great when you see pictures of rooms along with the disclaimer - may not be representative of the actual room you get. What’s the use of the picture then?

To me, it is about truth of advertising. Not what comes to mind when I think of Marriott & the Bonvoy program.

I would much rather see what I’m buying, what the program stands behind, what’s their commitment to individual customers (individuals versus properties as their customer), etc.

As long as they refuse to implement multi-discount searches on the website, I will only use the app for searches.

.

Or the same photo for multiple room types.

Marriott is rolling its property sites over to the new format, and I have to say… it’s a total mess and I absolutely hate it. Pictures appear in different sizes and are often low-resolution, room descriptions are cut-off and trail off into suspension points, and I find the new design visually unappealing. It looks like a site designed for mobile screens, but stretched out onto a big screen.

What a mess. To think that entire teams of people put this together as an “improvement” is appalling.

In the new design I cannot read the reviews. Is this just me?

Me too. I would guess Marriott IT deleted them during the process.

“What to Expect” has also disappeared from Marriott.com -- at least from the hotels I checked today.

“What to Expect” is still on the Marriott Bonvoy mobile app.

Although many hotels are not keeping their “What to Expect” information up-to-date, it's still useful, especially the “Food & Beverage Offers” and “Marriott Bonvoy” buttons. Of course, it would be more useful if it were more reliable.

You can still see it by clicking Learn More under Commitment to Clean on the property overview page.

The new design looks absolutely terrific right now.

The new design is an absolute joke, toatally unusable!

At least for me, it is impossible to see the room details, the text is cutted in the middle of a sentence and there is no link to click to see the whole information.

Marriott IT Strikes Again

The new web site is an absolute mess. Try to click on anything on top and get sent back to the same place. Cannot read any reviews (done on purpose?), most hotel info also not available. A small number of pretty pictures, but not much else. Bring back the original format which was easy to use and gave useful information. Change for the sake of change or to justify your existence is ridiculous. Those IT clowns brought over when Ringling Bros circus closed should have been fired long ago!!!

The really useful directions to/from specific hotels with accompanying map appear to be gone as well. I used this to calculate distances between hotels on driving trips. I know everyone else flies and realize you can do all this with Google Maps, but that's several extra steps that weren't previously necessary.

Last night I was searching hotels and when I clicked the "view rates" link, the banner with the name of the hotel was missing at the top of the rates page. At one point as I was moving between hotels, I forgot which hotel I was looking at and then had to ask myself "Does that room decor in the photo look like a Marriott or a Westin?" :)

Fortunately that problem seems to be fixed now.

The new web format is evolving. Give it a few weeks to settle. I wonder why Marriott IT goes live on piecemeal basis, however.

Evolving since May?

VSLover Feb 11, 2022 12:13 pm

and even more hotel sites failing to load now as they continue to push this great innovation forward!

khabah Feb 12, 2022 9:00 am

I think they're fixing a few bugs in the website design [i.e. I'm now able to view extended room descriptions with details like room features, size, descriptions], but the overall design is absolutely atrocious. Look at these screengrabs: the logo in the upper-left corner is pixellated, the massive "RESERVE" banner stretching across the bottom is tacky and clicking on a gallery photo opens up a low-resolution image that's only 375 pixels in size and takes up a tiny portion of a sea of black.

I can't get over just how much this redesign is absolute garbage. Marriott's entire IT department needs to be thrown out for this.

What I find incredibly annoying is that blue box in the lower left hand corner with the cookie settings that never goes away, even after you click on it to confirm your cookie preferences.

It’s even worse on a mobile device since it takes up relatively more screen real estate and looks so prominent and distracting

yyzflyer Feb 13, 2022 1:27 pm

Parts of this look very similar to the Wyndham template. Wondering if they bought off-the-shelf software and are "customizing" it.

it isnt so much i detest the new design so much as it just does not function and when i want to look up a specific property or check room types, everything falls apart for those locations that have had the new design pushed. absolutely useless.

still my biggest pet peeve sits with the four seasons which appears as so once you have done a search for your dates and these are the room/rate results. REALLY. lol. not that i want to give marriott any ideas...
