Bed Bugs in room and compensation
So tonight I got back to my room after dinner, turned on the light and saw a bed bug on my pillow. I picked it up with a Kleenex and took to the MOD. He had me change rooms took my clothes so they could wash them and also took my luggage. I tried to search for what would be proper compensation and could not find a decent answer.
The MOD said they would comp my room but the government is paying for that and does me no good. What should I expect as compensation? I will not say the hotel unless they don't treat me right so don't ask. |
I think you’ve been adequately compensated for the level of damages you have suffered.

If they are already willing to comp your room then just ask for the equivalent number of Marriott points in lieu.

I found a bed bug when I stayed at the Park Central San Francisco which was then a Westin. They moved me to another suite - apologized - offered nothing else.
Getting the room comped is probably more than most would get. |

The hotel bought me new luggage as I was not going to risk taking my luggage home and don't have the time or equipment to do the bed bug protocol to kill potential bugs. They also gave me 50,000 points in lieu of comping the room.
I am happy with the way the hotel handled it. |

I am happy with the way the hotel handled it. FWIW, I picked up BB at an IHG property in the dead of winter in the high mountain (US) west a few years ago. Property gave me four nights' worth of points, some 100k. Since it was like NEGATIVE 30 degrees out, I just left my luggage in vehicle for a few days. |

Thanks for the update. Curious, what category was this property?

Do you think you should not be paid even on a per diem reimbursement scheme now since your room is comped due to some major inconvenience / potential suffering? I would not be so quick to make snarky comment before knowing why OP said "the government is paying for that". Many government contractors are hired on a per diem base. There is no reason for the poster to forfeit his per diem while he literally suffered meaningful inconvenience. The compensation should come from the property, not from the poster's own income.

I had a similar experience but at the BW Plus Kowloon as a BW Diamond. Went to bed at 2am and found a bed bug under the blanket, brought it down to front desk, and changed rooms (wasn't ready to leave with my SO at 2am unfortunately). Hotel didn't comp the night or provide laundry. Instead, they offered comp $10 breakfast. I left in the morning and went to the Hong Kong Courtyard, and I haven't stayed at any BW ever since.
I've never experienced bed bugs at a Bonvoy property. With that said, I think comping the night or providing the equivalent number of points and providing laundry service would be exactly what I would hope for in your situation. |
