Update: this hotel closed in September 2019 for its large-scale overhaul but recently disappeared entirely from Marriott's directory. I assumed this was renovation-related but thinking a rebrand may be at play, I poked around the owning company's website and the hotel is listed there as Rixos Gulf Hotel Doha.

They're restoring the property's original Gulf Hotel branding and joining Accor, which is in line with the Katara portfolio as it signs more and more of its hotels over to Accor.
