This is true. I've yet to use it, but I would imagine it's now valuable now with upgrades being more possible due to the lack of business travel.

I'm sure this has been discussed endlessly... so please feel free to move moderator, I could find a good thread going back several pages....
Just completed my 3rd stay since becoming a Titanium. I must be missing something, but I don’t see any difference between Platinum and Titanium. I’ve been Platinum for the last 7 years (the 50 night level, so Gold / Platinum) and gotten the occasional upgrade, but it seems rare. Of the few that I’ve gotten, most were the result of me asking about an upgrade when checking in, which I don’t do very often (rarely). The only notable exception is the University Arms Autograph Hotel in Cambridge UK… where I was upgraded to a suite on both my stays this year, as a Platinum, and didn’t even ask! I was really excited when I reached Titanium (75 nights) for the first time, thinking my experiences would be better… sadly, I’m not really seeing anything.
My frame of reference is my airline status. The jump from Platinum to 1K on United is pretty meaningful to me (priority boarding, GPUs, dedicated call line, prioritized meal choices in business, free food in economy, etc.). I’m likely to reach 100 nights this year, but not the $20,000 in spend (probably ending around $15,000, thanks to corporate rates). I’m guessing Ambassador level is really where the noticeable differences kick in? |

SNIP So it makes sense in a way to keep Titanium (not hard when they give you 68 free "night credits" in a year...) in order to keep UA Silver.

This provokes a question in me: do any Titanium members use the UA Silver membership to get benefits on other Star Alliance airlines? Is there any real value to us in this scenario?

I have lifetime Titanium, and I use the United Silver to get E+ seats 24 hours before the flight. I got two exit row seats on my last two flights, and I had an entire exit row to myself for one of the flights. On that flight with the entire row, I saw the flight attendant tell another flight attendant traveling that he could not sit in the exit row or economy plus since that was considered an upgrade.
The best thing about silver besides E+ and the occasional upgrade is that you have some elite status so you can check one bag for free on domestic flights of up to 70 pounds and you get same day change (SDC) on flights for free. You also get priority during irregular operations (IROPS) when things go wrong. You are behind higher elite customers, but you are ahead of general members and non-MP people. This can be especially helpful on flights with few elite customers. I am not sure if elite customers in other star alliance carriers have the same status if they are star alliance silver for IROPS, but I assume that would be the case. |

I think ftrichard was asking about non-UA benefits... which are essentially nothing. Star Silver does very little, just priority for standby/waitlisted flights. No benefits for baggage, priority lanes, seats, boarding, etc -- though individual airlines may offer some of those benefits despite not being required to.

Correct. "Benefits on other Star Alliance airlines" is what I was asking about not Silver benefits on UA which are widely discussed. I looked this up and you're right that on paper there's basically nothing of value for being Star Alliance Silver via this UA programme. Hence my question whether any Titanium member had ever got anything on these other airlines in the real world.
Thankfully, other than a stray YBC-YQB on an all-Y prop plane, I can't recall flying Y on a *A carrier in recent years, so it hasn't really come up. |

A chart of some sort for enhanced benefits per property and elite level (Plat, Tit, Amb, Col) would be a very nice resource for FT!

Already a UA 1K, so for me the most useful benefit has been being able to book a room in a sold out hotel with at least 48 hour notice. Only used a few times, but huge difference between being walking distance from my meetings (or actually in the hotel where the meeting was held) and having to deal with transport/public transit from far away. Had to call to get it but no issues with the phone agent booking a room.
