Booking with Marriott or 3rd Party
Hi Guys
I have a Amex platinum card and heard whilst doing booking via 3rd party for Marriott hotels you don't get points. If i book via 3rd party would i be entitled to my gold member privileges or do i need to book directly with Marriott to be able to use my gold status? thanks in advance |

No you won't get points / nights and no you won't get gold privileges. (Altho some properties do if they know you/or just treat regulars well but def. not as a rule).
So book direct. |
Wait a sec - what was the context about having an AMEX Plat card? While it’s true that you won’t get your Marriott benefits while booking with a third party, AMEX FHR or AMEX Travel actually don’t count as a third party, so you’re fine to book through them and stack your benefits. |
Amex plat get free upgrade to gold status i believe
WHen 3rd party i was going to book via trivago or travelbag or something than direct but noticed the price direct isnt bad |

Should get points and benefits with FHR booking
|
As others have said, if you're using your Amex Plat to book Marriott properties through FHR, then you will get your points, nights, and benefits during your stay, you just have to make sure the property has your MR number in your reservation.
I'm not sure if the same applies for the Hotel Collection with Amex. I've never used that before. |

Amex Travel (so, NOT FHR) bookings at Marriott count as nights and you get points, etc.?

It all depends on who the third party is. You get credit when booking with most or all legitimate physical travel agents. It's the online travel agents where you lose everything.
|
Stayed at a property last weekend on an AMEX FHR rate to be paid at the hotel (not prepaid). I received all benefits of the Marriott program and all benefits of the AMEX FHR program. I received points and nights within a couple of days just as if I had booked on Marriott.com
If I had done a prepaid AMEX FHR bill, I would have received 5X AMEX points but perhaps not the Marriott program benefits. Most suggest I wouldn't. If I booked on hotels.com/expedia/etc., I wouldn't get benefits or points. |
I used Amex Platinum travel to book a package in Tahiti. But they used a 3rd party package "Classic Vacations". Will I get points for my St Regis stay?
