The Laguna Resort & Spa, Nusa Dua, Bali, Indonesia [Master Thread]

Was just in Bali and stayed at the Sheraton, now Laguna Resort and Spa, we also stayed their last year. They are just finishing their remodel. Updated Lobby, fully remodeled rooms, and ballrooms, and remodeled restaraunt. The property was fantastic last year and even better this year. The Sheraton name was not appropriate for this level property. The General Manager is excellent and we had drinks with him one night - an absolute perfectionist. German guy whose lived in Asia for many years, his wife is Indonesian.

I would return to this property any time. Also they have a model bungalow, where they have a manager's reception that is of the style they will build at the St. Regis - I totally want to buy one!

bali

i have been to the that hotel, and i must say it is a great hotel but it doesnt have a lounge.

i found the Westin Nusa Dua Bali better.

the suites for Platinum upgrades are really nice. modern, new and stylish.
westin nusa dua bali has larger suites, but they are not that modern .

i think i have pictures of both hotels somewere, if you need , i can email you the photoalbum i did create that time. just pm me.

if you need help on the westin nusa dua, you might try to ask DIANA, who is the master of the NUSA Dua :) and the loved baby of the RBC lounge staff.

i have know some persons on both hotels too, so if you need email adresses you can pm me too.

New Ambiance in The Laguna Resort & Spa, Nusa Dua, Bali, Indonesia.

Pics: see http://travel.webshots.com/album/553387176eAZwjS

In August 2006, I stayed some nights in the Sheraton Laguna …. Oh… uh.. now The Laguna Resort & Spa in Bali, Indonesia! Since my last stay in 2005, the hotel was renovated.
I had a special arrangement when I flew in from the Sheraton Bandung, where I had a really great stay. The pick – up from the airport was in time and very convenient. I arranged it via the hotel. When I arrived I experienced a sort of VIP treatment, and was greeted by the hotel manager. I was quite surprised.
In a flash I noticed the changed lobby. I was not pleased with the first impression, since I did like the “old “ lobby” with it’s Indonesian style interior with many flowers.

The “same” executive suite was appointed to me as I last year. Mrs. Dayu accompanied me to the suite. When she opened the door, I noticed a completely different suite. Instantly I was shocked by the difference in interior and atmosphere. The Indonesian style interior was gone. Now I was faced with a modern interior, which I experienced as coldish and impersonal. It could have been a suite in New York of even Amsterdam. I was really very disappointed with the changes in the interior in the suite, and I still regret the hotel “ruined” this suite.
During my stay I could not feel at home here, it was too coldish and impersonal for me. (see my pics, though the suite seems to be nicer on the pics!)
The bedroom seemed to be a bit warmer in style, but was not my taste compared to the beautiful “old “ Indonesian style bedroom.

The bathroom was the same as last year. The toilet is also located in the bathroom. I regret there is no separate toilet, as you can expect in a suite. It is not comfortable to relax in the bath when the toilet has been used.
Furthermore it would be practical if a clock was available in the room.
This executed suite, offered some privacy. However, most of the accommodations do not offer some privacy.

I did see the studio and the deluxe rooms. See my pics.
The interior of these renovated rooms appeared to be much more warmer and with some Indonesian styles. Warm wood, carvings in the wall, very nice comfortable furniture, for instance, made these accommodations much nicer than the coldish executive suite I stayed in. However there was not much privacy in these kind of accomodations.

The gardens, lagoons etc. were like last year, still very beautiful and well kept.

Reataurants
This time I tried the award winning Indonesian restaurant, Myang Sari. When I entered the restaurant, it appeared to be empty, and I hesitated to dine here.
The interior is very beautiful and cozy. Service was friendly, but since I was the only guest all evening, it was sometimes overwhelming…..
I was disappointed when reading the menu. Since I did not like seafood, I had a hard time finding a nice meal.
Furthermore, no traditional Indonesian food was available. No nasi / bami, no rendang, no bab ketjap, no atjar, even no kroepoek, etc. The waiters did manage to help me out, and managed to get me some kroepoek, etc. And finally a had a nice meal.
In the beautiful restaurant was a boy who played the flute, all time long. Though the Indonesian music was nice, I did feel a little embarrassed the boy had to play, and play and play. And after a long time, I could do with some other music…
When I told one of the waiters I thought the boy needed a break, they insisted he had to play for me. Only when I persisted and told them I wanted him to have a break they permitted him to do so.
Again, service was very friendly, but it was not great to be the only guest in the restaurant. I felt not comfortable and I think the menu should have some non-seafood items with some traditional Indonesian food. Since the menu could not give me what I wanted I did not go back. I regret this, since Indonesian food is my favourite.
The next evenings I had drinks in the Cascade bar. This open air bar is quite nice, and the service here is very warm and friendly. The view of the lights / fire in the area near the bar is beautiful and it is very relaxing. In the evening you can enjoy some live music here.
From here I could see guests looking at the menu of the Myang Sari. I noticed most of them went away after reading the menu…
So what it the purpose of offering an Indonesian restaurant with a menu which is not attractive for most of the guests. In my opinion the restaurant should offer some Indonesian traditional dishes, like nasi goreng, and rijsttafel.

After this disappointing dinner experience, I decided to try the café / restaurant Lagoon. It was great to be back here and I liked the new look of the interior. I was very pleased with my waiter, mrs. Fuji, who I remembered from last year. For me she a shining star of Starwood and makes the dining experience here perfect. She goes one step further in her service.
Moreover, colleagues of her did not want to serve me Indonesian food like Nasi goreng, kroepoek, atjar, etc. But she arranged it for me, so I could have my Indonesian dinner. I was a happy SPG and enjoyed coming back here! She showed service with a smile. I did come back to the café / restaurant Lagoon the next days. The ambiance near the Lagoon was quite nice and partly open air.
But once again, I regret it was so hard to get some Indonesian food in the restaurants. In Amsterdam, where I live, we have many Indonesian restaurants. It is very easy to have some Indonesian food experiences. I was amazed it was so hard to get my most favourite food in the hotel.
I do want to thank mrs. Fuji for her extra friendly efforts to serve me the Indonesian food. Otherwise I would have been quite disappointed.

I had my breakfast in my room via room service. Sitting on my balcony, it was every morning a feast to start my day with a perfect breakfast. Roomservice is ok. Only sometimes it was very, very annoying the person on the phone did not understand English and it frustrated me it too so much effort to get what I wanted!
Though it is possible to order some complimentary coffee or tea via the butler, I find it much more convenient to have a coffee maker in my room. I noticed other guests had the same idea. It seems just more practical. Perhaps a butler who serves the coffee is more stylish, but sometime you just do not feel like this. You just want to have a cup of coffee or tea in your own privacy.

The bussiness centre has moved and the location is closer to the lobby now. The area is smaller than before. Prizes for internet are rather high! Service is perferct here.

There are some shops in the hotel. The service they offer is very good. I had a very nice experience when I had to buy a short. Since they could not offer what I wanted, they promised me to order it and it would be ready the next day. And boy, when I went there next day the short was available!

I noticed a ATM is located in the nearby Westin hotel, which makes it easier to get some cash. Quite an improvement compared to last year. However the machine did not accept my bank card and I still had to go to the bank!

I made use of the concierge in the hotel, and arranged a trip with chauffeur to the Meridien hotel, which is now a Starwood property. It was very annoying the concierge and chauffeur told me he could speak English, but during the trip he did not understand what I told him. Furthermore I asked the concierge for a comfortable car, one day before my trip. At first sight it was, but the car appeared not to be comfortable at all!

Would I go back to the Laguna resort and Spa?
Yes and no.
Yes, because the service is very friendly and perfect.
Yes, because the lagoons and gardens are so beautiful.
Yes because the beach and sea are so relaxing.
Yes, because the accommodations are so spacious and comfortable.

No, when I have to stay in an accommodation with no privacy.
No, since there is no accommodation with seaview.
No, if mrs. Fuji is not on duty (!) and I cannot have my favourite Indonesian dinner, since her colleagues do not bother to give me that service.
No, if the menu in the Myang Sari does not offer traditional Indonesian / Asian dishes
No if I have to stay in a coldish executive suite.

well, the pictures really do not look that bad, but im comparison to some of your pictures on LH738's page, I could somehow understand it. Especially the lobby is really looking different.

The interior is different, too, and lacking an indonesian touch. Though I have to admit, I did not dislike it, but you get a room like this e.g. in the Intercontinental Berchtesgarden and that is really a different location.

Sometimes a renovation with a refurbishment could be a disadvantage.

According to some of the personnel, most of the returning guests were not happy with the changes. They also missed the "Indonesian ambiance" in the new look. Guests who stayed for the first time liked the rooms.
The interior in the executive suite was cold, I think one has to experience this. The studio's and deluxe rooms were much warmer and stylish however.

I had the same feeling in the Sheraton Bandara. They showed me a renovated room, and it was also a big disappointment. No Indonesian touch, modern and coldish!

I agree with you, sometimes a renovation can be a disadvantage!

That looks like a very nice LC. Cheers for the pics. :)

The only LC I've stayed at is the Sheraton Imperial in KL, and while the service was top notch - I didn't really like the decor and the furnishing. The 'old world' style was cute for a while but it didn't feel that luxurious and was actually a little creepy at night, which prompted an escape to the Westin for my remaining nights in KUL (ahh welcome to the 21st century!). I was then told by a friend of mine, who's an absolute fan of LCs, that they deliberately make LCs look old and worn so that they give you a 'historical' feel.

And indeed when I did my research for BKK SPGs, the SGS does resemble the Sheraton Imperial, which made the much more modern WGS an easy choice for me. How I wish there were more Ws (my favourite within the SPG stable of brands) around the world - I'm still reeling over the loss of W Sydney. :(

Glad to see the 'old world' look is not the case for all LCs.

Oh well, horses for courses I guess.

Did the category change for Laguna Resort, Nusa Dua Bali?

Was this property a Cat 3 or 4 before this last change today (March 4th). I was in HNL on a MR and remembered that I better book my stay before I cant take advantage of it. When I called on the phone I could have sworn the agent told me it was 7k pts a night and 3500 with the promo. I just looked my acct and there were 30k pts taken from my acct for 6 nights. There are some threads where I read that it was a Cat 3, but I dont see their name on the change as of March 4th. Does anyone know if it was a Cat 3 yesterday?? I called the PLT line and agent in Cork said it was always a C4.

Cheers
Chan

It was a Cat 3. I have a res there for March before the change.

PS:
Here is the link from *W showing it. Go to the bottom.

Squzair Mar 4, 2008 5:27 am

Yes, its just gone up from a CAT 3 to CAT 4,
while the Westin also went up from a CAT 2 to CAT 3 ....

as I also made a reservation on 3 Mar, to beat the category change as well as to utilize the 50% off redemption.

If you had made the reservations before the deadline of 3 March for the 50% off promo... then you'd beat the Category change deadline of 4 March, as well.

So the Laguna should only cost you 21Kpts only (50% of 6 x 7Kpts), instead of the 30Kpts.... a quick call to the Plat line should sort out everything!

Cheers!

chanp Mar 4, 2008 11:43 am

hum...i just checked my spg acct right now and it gave me back 9k pts, said cat change discrepancy. thanks for the link and the info. when u all staying there. ill be there may 15-21

Laguna Nusa Dua, Bali

I am a Platinum with Starwood -- have been since 2000 -- and have stayed at a lot of resorts throughout Mexico, Tahiti, South Africa and Europe. I have 7 days reserved at the Luxury Collection in Bali at the end of May. The spa menu is quite extensive -- and the restaurants look good, too.

Has anyone stayed at this property, received their Plat upgrade (yea/nea) and used the spa?

KosherKimchee Apr 20, 2008 11:16 pm

Stayed at the Laguna last year as a Plat. Upgrade to huge suite. Spa was fantastic, we had massages every night before going to our room (open pretty late). Points can be redeemed at a very attractive rate for instant rewards -- if I recall 750 points got you a breakfast that's normally like $20+ pp.

Downsides -- Nusa Dua is hardly the place to be in Bali, pretty far from what Bali is all about. That said, given that you can hire a driver for like $30-40 a day (book in advance through one of the people recommended here on FT, otherwise the hotel will hook you up with someone who charges $12 per hour) if you dont mind the minor inconvenience of having to be driven to other parts of the island, then the room really are great if you are a Platinum.

One more thing, we did this tour thing that combined a downhill bikeride (dont think Maui, think more of a controlled freefall) and whitewater rafting down the Ayung. Was awesome, the bikeride hit some ancient villages and temples plus some coffee grinders and then the rafting was a great way to cool off and see the amazing jungle.

mario33 Apr 21, 2008 3:46 am

Yes they do upgrade Platinums but no comp breakfast.
If I remember correctly, you also get 15min (yes fifteen minutes) internet access "per stay" at the biz centre (how generous )

The refurbishment was very well done; the heavy gaudy interiors have been replaced by a modern decor with much slimmer furnitures. Though very modern with plasma tv etc, the decor has a slight balinese touch (sandstone wall with local design). The rooms do feel more spacious but the balcony is still very tight with 2 chairs and a table. The bathroom is also quite small (no separate shower) and apart from a new lighted mirror, the original fittings remain intact.

There is no minibar and coffee/tea is complimentary by "butler" service which is a nice touch. The "butler" will also bring their entire collection of DVDs to your room for your selection .

The local mall "Bali Collection" is a bit more vibrant now with a department store, a supermarket, several cafes and restaurants, and a few boutiques.

The resort does feel very crowded when occupancy is high and appears to be very popular with local Indonesian families. I stayed at the Le Meridien during the same trip, and I much prefer the setting and quieter atmosphere there though the interiors are very dated at the LM.

Overall The Laguna is nice and comfortable.

lerasp Apr 21, 2008 7:54 am

something else to consider - i just returned from staying at both the Laguna and Westin next door. I prefer Laguna for rooms, decor, and grounds. but Westin gives free breakfast and 1hr cocktail hour with free drinks. I got huge suites at both. Breakfast is about $20 at both. so, for that, i'd be willing tos tay at the westin, while still spending most of my pool time at Laguna (as well as going to the Spa). The are so close to each other, it's very easy to do.

SanDiego1K Feb 24, 2009 3:00 am

We had a brief overnight stay here as our first night in Bali. We loved it. Do keep in mind that we didn't go to the beach, use the pool, or eat in a restaurant. So my perspective won't be of much help who are planning an longer stay.

We arrived at night, and were immediately seated. A cold drink and cloth were brought. The duty manager arrived to chat with us and to take us to our room. We chose a gift instead of points, the first time I've ever done that. I liked the small head of a Balinesian man in metal which can be mounted on a wall.

We were given a wonderful upgrade to an executive suite. You enter the room a couple steps higher than the living room. The dining table is on this level, and seats 4. Go down the steps into a spacious living room. There was a chair and stool by the window, a sofa and another chair. There was a large flat screen TV with a DVD player. The hotel had about 20 English language DVDs, a very small selection. The bedroom was also spacious. The bathroom was up two steps. There was both a shower and a tub. Toiletries were luxurious, Ferragamo Tuscan Sun. I applaud the hotel for chosing a name luxury toiletry. I'm underwhelmed by the self branded Luxury Hotels product.

We had a charming tray with 3 chocolate covered strawberries, a chocolate palm tree, and welcome in chocolate. We also had some delicious truffles. Eat this the first night as the ants will find them by the following morning. The butler will bring ice, coffee and tea whenever desired.

It was a lovely and all too brief stay.

my44 Feb 24, 2009 4:06 pm

Glad that you enjoyed your stay, SanDiego1K.

I plan to use cash+points to stay at Laguna Nusa Dua this September. I'll be in constant look for comments about this resort as well as the neighbouring Westin Nusa Dua.

TravellinHusker Apr 21, 2009 2:51 am

Just returned from a stay at the Luxury Collection's Laguna Resort and Spa. If you book there (and I highly recommend it!), then select a lagoon access room. They cost a bit more, but well worth it. All of the buildings with rooms are surrounded by man-made lagoons that you can jump right into directly from your balcony. The lagoons ARE NOT linked together. They are separated by bridges, walkways or trees/plants. The only private lagoon is accessible to the Imperial Suite. All other lagoons are shared, however, there are a very limited number of rooms that can access each lagoon. For example, I was in room 160 which has direct access only by 8 rooms total. The entire week I was there, I only saw 2 other people one time in the same lagoon. This lagoon was about as long as an Olympic sized pool and about as wide, but of course not rectangular, but rounded and curved like a natural lagoon. Completely surrounded by tall trees, flowers, bushes, etc so it was extremely private. Only if someone walked across the walkway to their room could they see into the lagoon. The water was quite warm toward the end of the day and just the perfect temperature in the morning and early afternoon. There are 2 lagoons that do not face the main resort area and instead face a jungle of sorts. I never saw one person in either of those lagoons the entire week. They are extremely private. One of these two lagoons has a man-made beach with real sand, etc.. The water is clean, pool water and every day a few times a day, the pool boy comes to scoop out leaves and fangipani flowers that drop in from the trees that shade portions of the lagoons. There is one large central lagoon that is not attached to any rooms at all. There are 2 sand man-made beaches, and 4 waterfall/cascading water features. Very relaxing to just float and bob around. In addition, there is a large pool with jacuzzi that is separate from all of this located in the direction of the beach.

I am not much of a water type, but I was ready to stay an entire month. I just floated my heart away and really enjoyed every aspect of the resort. I've stayed in some swanky places and I really do not like snobby resorts. This was certainly luxury, but without any pretentiousness at all. The management staff were INCREDIBLE. If you are interested, I will gladly share their contact information (they gave me their cards during our stay) and you can communicate with them in advance. The GM is a delightful Australian man and the Hotel Manager, Douglas, is an American-educated Colombian fellow. I spoke with Douglas a bit and he spent 4 years at the FS in Singapore before moving to Starwood. Both would be THRILLED to hear from you in advance to do whatever possible to make your stay there as perfect as can be. It is the ultimate in relax, in my opinion.

Completed a short two nite stay using weekend awards - nice property

I have already posted an update on my stay at the Westin, but I had also used two weekend awards to stay two nites at the Laguna resort. Thankfully, the Westin stored most of our luggage.

The grounds are extremely well laid out. The hotel was quite busy, but no one seemed to be using any of the lagoon pools, and the sand pools were not that busy as well.

As a Plat using the weekend awards, was still given a direct lagoon access room. I think the room was called a deluxe studio room. In comparison to the Westin, the Laguna rooms have much more modern furniture (and are probably better designed and decorated). PLats are also given free internet access. While we were at the resort, I did not see anyone using the lagoon pool that our room had access to.

I had stated that I prefered the Westin over Laguna, but that is primarily based on family considerations. If you have young children, I would certainly recommend the Westin, but if you are looking for a more quiet and intimate resort, the Laguna is probably better. As a Plat, you probably get more value for dollar due to RBC lounge access, etc.

Anyhow, both hotels are excellent, with excellent staff.

my44 Jul 7, 2009 7:57 pm

Wow, thanks for the heads up on these two Starwood resorts in Nusa Dua. I myself will be using two free weekend nights, each at The Westin and The Laguna in September. Certainly looking forward to that.

rockyp Jul 16, 2009 2:31 am

My wife and I just spent six wonderful nights at the Laguna in a lagoon-access room for our 30th wedding anniversary. Not accustomed to staying at a Starwood property of this type -- aside from the Sheraton Mirage in Port Douglas -- we were overwhelmed with the warm hospitality and luxury.

The GM of the Laguna, David Cuddon, has truly put this property on the map. Yes, I know, it's Nusa Dua and not the real Bali, but for a senior somewhat-disabled dude like myself it was perfect.

As mentioned in previous posts, it's like having a lagoon to yourself! In the week we were there we saw six swimmers who went for a morning dip. The guests who wanted "action" congregated in the core to strut their stuff. We were facing the lagoon and jungle. Pure bliss!

There are two types of lagoon-access rooms, regular and studio, but I recommend either one over anything on the higher (two) floors. The ability to jump right into the lagoon is just so tempting, you'll be forever sorry you made the wrong decision.

Upon arrival, we were escorted by Anton (ask for him, he's special) to our room. I can't begin to describe what was there awaiting us -- a framed picture of our wedding day (the GM asked me to email him a copy), a white chocolate heart surrounded by truffles, two ice-cold Mojitos and towels, a heart-shaped garland of flowers on our bed and in our bath, a cheese plate and giant tropical fruit basket. Oh, those Mojitos were good!

I truly felt I had arrived.

The property itself is immaculate -- leaves kept falling into the lagoon but were whisked away in minutes. Mosquitoes? I only saw one. The geckos are adorable.

One experience not to be missed is the complimentary Afternoon Tea. For the week we were there, every day brought us a different treat, all delicious and the presentation made you feel 'so glad to be alive'.

Probably the biggest complaint about the Laguna is their overpriced menu. Yes, at first glance it is expensive on the Bali-scale. The breakfast buffet at $15 is a steal, however, what a feast! I've only had better croissants in Paris, and that's debatable.

We had dinner in their signature retaurant, the Mayang Sari, only once -- rijsttafel on Friday night -- and it was delicious at $20 each.

With the complimentary Afternoon Tea, who needs lunch?

In summary, all I can say is that our Laguna experience was perfect and that our memories will last forever!

Just spent four nights in Bali of which two nights at the Laguna.

Arrived on SQ C from SIN (no longer F to DPS) and the immigration was very fast due to being one of the first out of the plane.

Took a regular taxi to the hotel and was quite quickly escorted to one of the executive suites at the property.

The suite was nice but more on the "older" and heavier side than modern design that I would personally prefer.

This was my first time in Bali and I will never again stay at the tourist ghetto that Dusa Nua is. You are better off just staying at home and going to solarium few times and watching a DVD about Bali.

Taxis are cheap and reliable but it always took at least half and hour to get anywhere where I actually wanted to go. Not ideal to spend two hours per day getting to/from Laguna to Ku De Ta etc.

Not really but I was there over the weekend and wanted to hit some bars as well.

Next time when I go I will avoid the entire southern area.

Ocean Terrace

Recently returned from a stay at the St Regis Bali, but walked up the beach and had a great meal (on the beach) at the Laguna restaurant Ocean Terrace. Can't beat the view and the food was delicious.

Any recent stay updates?
I have a family 11 day booking coming up.

How are the Spa prices at this property? Also is Bali like Thailand where you can get massages on the beach provided by the locals? I like to get massages twice a day on holidays and the hotel Spa prices don't normally suit my pocket.

I have been offered an upgrade to the lagoon access for $110 incl taxes per night. I know that is worth it, but would it be cheaper if I request this at the time of check in? (no status with Starwood)

Too good to be true......

I have just finished a wonderful 11 night stay here with the family that was simply too good to be true.
This was clearly my best stay of 2009. A magnificent Hotel that is well managed with superbly trained staff that are pleased to spoil you with whatever it takes.I am simply blown away with the care and attention to detail that my family received from the moment we landed at Denpasar airport to the moment we left.
We had arranged for the 4 of us to be met by the Bali Concierge upon landing and as we came down the stairs after arrival he was waiting for us with a big sign that I could spot while I was still on the stairs. Cost was USD35/person but it is well worth it.While you are having a welcome drink and a snack in the Lounge your bags are being fetched,Visas arranged and then you are sped thru Customs to where the Hotel driver was waiting and away we went.
Check In was pleasant and quick and we were notified of the many benefits (some published and some unpublished) that as Platinum guests we could enjoy. We were allocated an upgrade to an Executive Suite with adjoining Deluxe twin room for the children.
The Hotel had given us benefits beyond those published which included Airport transfers and free Buffet breakfast.I can confirm that free Internet is now a stated Platinum benefit. No Lounge exists in this LC property but a highly recommended complimentary afternoon tea occurs at 3 PM daily in Mayang Sari. This is not to be missed and Putri and Dayu are superb hosts.
The Hotel has 3 restaurants and all 3 are recommeded. We also dined 3 times in the Westin next door and these charges can be directly charged to your room.
We found a gem of a lunch place, on one side of the Hotel, called Sapphire Lagon Bar which became a favorite place to catch up for lunch at eat at the bar.
Both my wife and I enjoyed Spa treatments and massages. I also had an outdoors massage under the big Cabana between the childrens pool and the beach.
One of the highlights was a cocktail party we were invited to in the Frangipani Garden that included a fashion parade.
We are now back in Australia, sunned and well rested after trips to WaterBom (Local version of Hawaiian Waters), Kuta,Sanur and Ubud and Paintball (Jimbaran Bay).
Far too many people to thank because I would be remiss in not thanking all.
David (GM),Norman (Manager) and Parsika can be very proud of the quality product they deliver and the daily consistency of that product. You are simply spoiled.

In conclusion, a stay too good to be true. This LC property is the best in the Nusa Dua strip. I hope to return again soon.

This was clearly my best stay of 2009.
I can confirm that free Internet is now a stated Platinum benefit.

We must have been there at the same time :) I just got back last week too. Amazing stay. Only negative was the building work which was going on which kind of ruined the chilling by the beach moments.

Also a great touch is the free tea and coffee served in the room 24hrs.

I thought the wi-fi was great value for money. $15 for 3 days. Can't go wrong with that.

Hey Aussiechris, was this the place you used? (Bali Concierge)

http://www.thebaliconcierge.com/

Price seems higher than you quoted....

Thanks for the review! Looking forward to our trip in March!

I guess pricing depends on requested services and your Hotel. The cost was quoted by the Hotel and directly charged to my folio.

I can attest to that also. My recent stay in Sep 2009 was fantastic even as an SPG Gold. The upgraded studio room was superb and spacious. Loved the manicured lawns and exquisite bale begongs. Requests for coffee throughout the day were met without any glitch.

If I can't still accumulate 30-35k Starpoints for St Regis redemption, I may stay here again next July 2010 :)

Free Breakfast & Internet (I hope its unlimitted and not the 15min offered previously) sounds nice.

Is airport transfers really comp for platinums now ? Almost unbelievable ...

Thanks :)

If the transfer was part of a deal (rather than a platinum benefit), I wouldnt pursue it.

We stayed here on New Years Day, mainly just to use up my AP free night and as many other hotels were full.

We opted for the collection and it worked great until we got outside when it went pear shaped and we were left standing in the heat for 25 minutes as the car was nowhere to be seen. They said it was stuck in traffic, which is fair enough and can happen, but they should know how the traffic is and arrange accordingly. All the others on the same flight who had the concierge service were away immediately. They tried to put us in a taxi for the same rate - US$17 - as the hotel was charging us!.

They eventually got us in another vehicle and away we went. In fairness when I complained about it the duty manager came to see us to apologise and they wiped the charge as well as providing a hotel car to wherever our next destination was, which was only the Conrad.

Other than that it was a fabulous stay as they put is in one of their two enormous suites, I think it was called the Raja ?. By far the biggest suite I have ever been in. Not bad for an award stay, just a shame we were only there one night.

Just an update on some of the information posted above,

1) Internet : Its complimentary for Platinum members throughout their stay (previously only for 15min per stay), you purchase it in your room at a rate of $15 per day but they will remove the charge.

2) Breakfast : Its "not" complimentary for Platinum members. The charge for continental breakfast is around $11++ while for full breakfast its around $15++

I'll be there in March too!

I'll be doing one night at the Laguna Resort and the other night at the Westin (just 2 nights in Bali altogether) so will be a rather short trip in comparison to the rest of you.

Anybody have any suggestions on what one can do OUTSIDE the resort? I heard there're places you can go to watch dolphins etc - any advice would be much appreciated!!

Go to Bali to watch dolphins ? I believe its off the northern coast which isnt quite so convenient. There is a golf course just outside the resort, if you play golf. Or hire a driver for a day to visit the usual spots if you have not already done it before.
