I was just there a week ago. The place is adequate for using points, but I would not have paid for it. Appears that the casino has closed, by the way.
Platinum upgrade was to a club room, no suite. No free breakfast in the lounge when using points. Was only able to adjust the fan speed in the room, not the temperature of the climate control. I was sweltering hot and had to sleep with the window open and breath in smog all night. I believe it is closer to the airport than Miraflores. Did not personally experience any crime problems, but I knew better than to carry anything around that I did not want to risk having stolen. Concierge was friendly and helpful - he set up a nice excursion to the Parque de las Leyendas zoo. All of the staff were friendly and helpful and most spoke fairly good English. |

Wow!! |
I stayed there a few years ago on points for 1 night - as a cat 1 it is a good deal. The area is less safe than Miraflores but it is not terrible by Latin American standards. We just had one day and left for the airport the next day. We spent most of the trip at Cuzco/Machu Picchu.

When you went to the lounge for breakfast they wouldn't let you in because you were using points?

After reading the posts here and on the Hilton board, I decided to stay at the Doubletree for the safety issue. When I called HHonors I was told there were no award stays available for Golds or Diamonds, but if I wanted to pay I could have a room. I then called SPG and they had rooms. I can't remember a time I called SPG and they didn't have an award room available, except maybe for XMAS week, so I booked the hotel. As much as we B&M about devaluation and other c**p, for the most part SPG comes through.

The attendant asks for your room number when you enter the lounge. They'll let you in but you would see a charge on your statement at check out.
What I intend to do is email the hotel in advance and ask what amenities they offer PLT and what I expect so there is no issue. |
Let me know if you have to call them out on the club lounge breakfast for plats on award stays.

We then went to the lounge for a drink. The had a variety of snacks and hors d'oevres. We asked for bottled water. We were then "charged" for the water. When I got back to my room, I called the front desk, spoke to the same rep Vanessa and she told me I shouldn't have been charged, removed the charge from my bill, and called the lounge to instruct the person in charge of that. We were never charged for breakfast, although we were asked our room and did need to sign a receipt, albeit for zero amount. If I was paying for the hotel and wasn't on the Club floors, I would've been very disappointed. To be honest, I wouldn't want to stay on an award without being on a club floor. What made the stay an incredibly positive experience was the people. Vanessa at the front desk, went out of her way to help us any way she could without us asking, so did the concierge (forget his name). I intend to write a letter (email) to SPG about her. I wish SPG had those certificates, like AA reintroduced so you can reward a job well done. |
Can anyone advise on the best way to get to the Sheraton from the airport? I will be with 2 other friends arriving into LIM at 11PM from an international flight. Should we just grab a taxi or would it wiser to arrange a shuttle?

Hmmm... after having read the posts... most of them negative... I feel like I made a bad choice to stay here. I am going there tomorrow and my reservation shows only upgrade to Club (I am Plat). It's a 12 night stay... :(
Hopefully they will have a decent swimming pool and gym to get 'away' from the rooms. I will report back on my stay soon. |

Lima
Hi
Stayed at a few hotels in Lima - my favourite is definitely the Miraflores Park Hotel (Orient Express) http://www.mira-park.com/ - closely followed by the JW Marriott hotel, both overlooking the ocean. Both recommended, over and above the Sheraton. Matt. |
Can anyone confirm that Plats are given free access to the lounge even if on points? Any updates to the decor here?

The older gentleman that usually works the breakfast is pleasant enough but I would not want to pay $250 USD a night for that hotel esp given its location. You are so close to all the centro historic sights but the ocean and Miraflores are 15-30 mins away depending on traffic. Heading back there in a few weeks and will burn some more points to conserve the cash. |
I guess maybe brahms77 is still travelling, cause there's been no report back yet :p
It seems like the previous posts reference a room rate that is definitely not so low any more. I'm seeing USD130 for a regular room and USD 180+ for club floor, and from the previous reports it sounds like that's not a very good deal at all. It's also up to a Category 2. I'm thinking that everybody seems to love the Marriott and the Mira Park, so maybe Miraflores is a better idea after all. |
What are the evening snacks like in the lounge here? Free drinks, hot food, wifi?
