They seem to still be in the rooms, although there is a notice at check-in that if you decline them you’ll get a small gift. I’m sure they would still be available on request even if not in the rooms

Wait... what? I just checked in here last night, and didn't see anything about that. Sure enough, I have the box of these amenities in the bathroom, but I'm happy to leave them alone for a gift :)

Over New Year's I stayed here with my parents for 5 nights for a total cost of 50k points and about $100 in third person charges which was much better value then paid rates during the period. I booked a deluxe double/double room which was a very spacious 42 square metres with two large beds. The room was a modern style and well maintained with a separate shower and bath. I would say the room compares favorably to most full service hotels. As a platinum member I received 4pm late checkout and access for two for the lounge but was quoted a high supplement (1980 TWD/day nett) if I wanted access for the third person which I declined. This is perhaps somewhat understandable as the lounge was sometimes at capacity. The lounge had nice seating and a decent spread although we didn't spend much time in the lounge. We had dinner twice at the Cantonese restaurant, Moonlight which we enjoyed. Moonlight was reasonably priced considering the 20% discount for platinums. I also ordered fried rice from room service once which was decent and arrived in around 15 minutes.
The location of hotel is convenient in that it is connected to a large train station/mall that is a few stops to many attractions and has a MRT stop but inconvenient in that I don't think there is a lot near the hotel. A lot of popular attractions are 30-45 minutes by mrt or taxi (depending on traffic) which is tolerable but worse than most of the other Marriott hotels. I think this hotel is very nice for a courtyard and is a great value on points but would probably stay elsewhere if I could find reasonable rates because of the location. |
was there 2 weeks ago - our room had them in a box (not sure if it had anything to do with our platinum status

If I book two rooms as a plat, each for two people what would the supplement be for lounge access for the two extra people in the other room? Or is this not allowed? |

Thank you Christina. My question was referring to previous reports that a third person in the room, booked by the platinum member could pay a supplement (400TWD) for the lounge access. I was wondering if this option is extended to a fourth person and where two people are staying in a separate room booked by the platinum member under the same reservation.

Will be staying here for 1 night and then the Marriott Taipei for another night as a Platinum Premier. At the CY, is breakfast allowed in both the restaurant and lounge? This place is quite cheap at 12.5k. Is it too good to be true? Would I have been better off spending both nights at the Marriott Taipei for 25k/night instead? Thanks in advance.

when I stayed in October and November 2018, Plat Prem were able to choose between restaurant or lounge for breakfast. Having said that, reading a FT report in December above states that it may have changed to lounge only. The lounge breakfast is actually not bad and has a cook to order chef. The full service Marriott is also lounge only unless you are a frequent guest ;) |

Thank you for the insight. I stayed at the Marriott Taipei in November and they offered breakfast in the main floor as well as the lounge despite my first time staying. I loved the property so I rebooked it. I am also staying at the Courtyard because I have a meeting literally in the same building, and its pricing was so cheap. It looks pretty nice in pictures so I look forward to my stay there.

For those wondering about Platinum benefits, here they are as of last week; note they were very serious about the +1 guest when I was there.
I also took advantage of the free 2 hours of meeting rooms (attached to the lounge), and my laundry automatically had the 20% discount applied without needing to ask. Additionally, you are permitted 10 free pages to print or scan, as a Platinum. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...d426acc235.png |
Really having trouble deciding where to stay in Taipei for 2 nights in November. I was going to use two 50k certs at W Taipei, but the point rate here is really good so I'm wondering if it's better to book here and use those certs in Singapore. I could also just book at the Grand Hyatt Taipei via FHR.

W Taipei is definitely not worth 50k, and neither is the Le Méridien. W is less than 10 years old but the rooms are really showing wear and tear, and service is great but not noticably better than the Marriott Taipei at 25k. Definitely save those certs for more aspirational properties, none of which are located in Taiwan. In Taipei you would want to explore the city, so save those certs for a resort where you would really take advantage of its breadth of facilities. |
