AC Bella Sky Copenhagen Denmark [Master Thread]
Noticed in the Malmo or Copenhagen thread that this property is available. Category 6.
"At the international 4-star design hotel, Bella Sky, in Copenhagen, you will experience Scandinavian quality, comfort and service in exclusive surroundings. Bella Sky opened in 2011 as Scandinavia’s largest hotel with 23 floors, 812 rooms, three restaurants, two bars and an aqua spa & fitness. The hotel has a unique architecture and design profile and all of the spacious, elegant rooms are furnished with original design furniture, floor to ceiling windows and free Wi-Fi. You can relax in the pools in our aqua spa, taste the Nordic classic cuisine in our restaurants and enjoy the amazing panoramic view of the Copenhagen skyline in our Sky Bar. The hotel conference area comprises 48 meeting rooms, featuring the latest IT/AV equipment, and has direct access to Bella Center, Scandinavia’s largest conference center. Bella Sky also has its own metro station from where you can reach Copenhagen city centre in less than 10 minutes and provides free shuttle service to and from Copenhagen airport." https://www.marriott.co.uk/hotels/tr...ky-copenhagen/ Cheers. |
The location is from my point of view bad unless having something to do in the immediate surroundings (e.g. at the business district or exhibition area), but at least a good alternative to the Hilton Airport.
Will check it out next time in the area. |
I thought the category was a bit high too, but figured they did it because high profile city & not many options. If it's only a 10-minute metro ride into the city center the location isn't a big deal IMO if one can get a decent rate. However, if using points I'd probably ante up the 5K extra for the Cat 8 Marriott because of location/exec lounge, etc.
Cheers. |
Although it's on the metro, it's not an easy hop from the airport as it's a different line. Think I'll give it a swerve.
|
It's one stop from a big mall called Field's. The building looks very special as there aren't that many tall buildings in CPH area.
For the rate it looks ok if you pay. However there is a CP right down the very same road which was very nice - a thousand time nicer than CPH Marriott IMO - we got lounge access as Platinum on PB (5k IHG points promo a few years back). They even apologized for not being able to upgrade us due to being fully booked without us even asking! CPH Marriott is very dated compared to these 2 hotels and I think it could really use an update. |
Marriott issued official press release on it opening last month. The design of the building looks pretty cool:

Quick review to help folks;
|
I frequently see this interestingly designed hotel building on the way to the DR (Danish TV/radio broadcaster) office from CPH airport. From CPH, it's not a bad trip if doing the interchange at Orestad and not being encumbered by luggage for say a half-mile walk.
But location wise for my CPH trips, I'm even better off staying at a hotel in Sweden (some 12/15-25 minutes from CPH airport) than staying at this Marriott hotel. For others, this Marriott works out well enough. It all comes down to price and convenience for the purpose of the trip. Service and quality wise it's in the range of normal for the region but has the plus of being new. |

I stayed here a couple of weeks ago as the Ren in Malmo was full.
I was given a room in the 23rd floor of the 'other' tower i.e. not the one you check into. First impressions not good as I checked in just after a coach party of tourists and the queue for the 'smart' lifts meant a 10 minute wait to get up to my room. Room was on a corner and had a large sitting area with a sofa. tub chair and a large B&O tv. Bed was in the corner. Bathroom had a walk-in shower that did not dissipate water quicker than the shower head could deliver it. Interesting architectural feature is that the hotel is built on a slant, so you can stand against the window and look directly down to the car park below, or if feeling really daring, lean against the window and pretend you are flying. Had dinner in the Library as the two main restaurants were fully booked. I always try the burger when staying in a Marriott for the first time and it was cooked how I like it (medium-rare) with decent fries and a bit of salad. Good, local beer too. Breakfast was in the 1st floor of the main tower, which apparently is for elites only in the morning. Good selection of hot and cold food, tea, coffee, juice and water. Enjoyed my stay and will be back at the end of the month as the Ren is full again. If coming from CPH, you can go to Orestad station and it's about a 10 minute walk to the hotel. |
Thanks for the trip report. Much appreciated.
Cheers. |
No executive lounge ?
No Lounge for Gold and Platinum ?
Do they provide any compensation for that like extra MR points or free access to the spa or something like ? From a category 7 I expect something more than a "sorry, we do not have it" |

My rate includes already the breakfast and the internet connection :)
Basically, I can hope just in a room upgrade. I did not liked AC properties in Madrid and I think this stay will confirm my old opinion. |
Hi,
I stayed here one night ( 8th Sept) after coming in from LAX via LHR. Arriving at CPH at 2230 I took a taxi ( 130 Dkr) Check in was quick. I was given room 1151 in Tower 2. From the lobby you had to take the lift up 1 floor, cross the hall to the tower 2 elevator lobby and then key in your floor to the keypad and go to the allocated lift. My room was at the corner of the building with 2 windows ( curtains did not close completely in the corners so it does let some light in early in the morning. The do not disturb sign is a red light ( activated by a button in the room just beside the door. There was a couple of glass window between the bathroom and bedroom but most of it is opaque. Bed was comfortable and you can set a wake up call on the tv. Gym is free but you have to pay extra for the spa. In the morning I looked out my window and saw a giant wind turbine in the nearby car park ( no noise heard) Breakfast was 185 DKr and is served in the BM room on the first floor. Good breakfast selection with an automated fruit juice dispenser in the wall ( breakfast was quite busy) You do have to reserve the shuttle back to CPH ( from reception). It stopped at the Crowne Plaza enroute to CPH and took about 15mins to get to the airport. Overall an ok overnight stay Regards TBS |
Thanks for the trip report! Much appreciated.

My colleague and I stayed here for 4 nights.
Parking is 80kr a day and they are insistent they cannot wave it for any reason... there is zero public parking any where near the hotel... Corner room on the 19th floor was a decent size. I didn't even try to close the curtains, it was irrelevant considering the sun isn't rising until 9am these days. Bed is ok... it's basically a 4'' or so mattress pad on a boxspring type thing... not really a proper mattress, but was comfortable enough. I also had a view of the turbine, but no noise could be heard... The windows are obviously very efficient, with the noise reduction and didn't let in much cold even though they were severely icing up. Breakfast was free for plats... I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the breakfast. Very cool cheese slicer. Now that I have covered those bases... I have to talk about my problems. Don't mean to be whiny, and some may consider this to be petty, but I was upset with the hotel's lack of privacy regarding my reservation. Before I begin I will say that I have a verbal password on my MR account for phone support to prevent anyone not authorized from checking my history or future reservations. I made a reservation for 2 rooms planning on family meeting me while in Denmark. Later on an agent on behalf of my employer made a reservation for my room... when they did they were informed that I had a previous reservation, in turn they told my employer that I had booked other rooms. I was not too happy when I get an email from my office asking why I have booked other rooms. I don't feel like I should have a reason to want to protect my privacy, so I won't go into reasons I would rather keep my personal reservations private. I called the hotel and was transferred to the woman who had given out my reservation details to what I feel amounted to as a stranger. She said that the hotel had a relationship with this agent and she was just trying to be helpful so that I am not double charged. While I appreciate she initially had good intentions she was relentless in her denial that she had done anything wrong. I was not looking for anyone to get in trouble, maybe just an apology and a promise to keep my personal records private in the future. After putting me on hold for a few minutes and speaking to her manager she came back with an apology, obviously at the direction of her supervisor. When I called MR hotline for guidance on how I could further safeguard my account from unauthorized releases of my details I was told that there was nothing else I could do. The only suggestion I got was to make reservations under a different name... but that seems to defeat the purpose of maintaining platinum status and the protections that it affords. Upon arrival to my room there was a note saying the case had been elevated to management... No further effort was made to contact me during my 4 days. |
It's really nothing - have tried this before in other hotels and it doesn't bother me.
What really freaks me out is that a CY FD Supervisor can see where I have stayed and where I'm going to be staying. I found out by having a casual holiday greetings and then he asked where I went during the holidays and he said he saw that I was staying in XX hotel in XXX. I was surprised and I said to him that you probably know that my next trip is in 2 weeks time and I'll be going to xxx and stay at xxx hotel. Don't ever consider living in Sweden if you are so afraid of privacy, e.g.: - if you have a car and bring it to a garage, they can look up when the car has been serviced (it doesn't have to be the same garage - somehow the system is connected); - you can get an insurance quote by giving them your personal number (social security number), they can dig out enough to give you a quote; - your personal information including everyone in your household (including your children) will be on yellow page here - including date of birth, telephone number, address and possibly which car you have (and potentially the licence plate number) - this is the information sold by the Swedish government to companies to get $, removing it is difficult and you need to find out all the companies that have the information and contact them one by one to get your info deleted. |

I've just booked an overnight here. I see they are now charging for the shuttle: it was free last year.
Confusing, the reservation mail (and web link) both mention 2 euros each way - I make that about 15 Danish Kr "Airport Shuttle between 6:00 - 23:00 with onboard WiFi Use our shuttle service to and from Copenhagen Airport. 2€ each way" http://www.marriott.com/hotelwebsite...sremarsha=MR~G |

No, it is free, I know it is confusing but it is free, I was there last month. When you take it from the airport it stops outside terminal 2. It also drops off only outside terminal 2 (terminal 3 is a two-minute walk). When you take it from the hotel you need to reserve it when you check in because it may fill up for the time you want it, it fills up fast.
So in fact, they say there will be a charge but obviously, not just yet. |

I have two stays at this hotel later this month. One is a layover on my way to Tronheim and the other a two night stay to spend one day in CPH before returning to the USA.
So as gold, I will get a free breakfast and wifi but no other food since there is no lounge? BTW, I got an email response telling me the airport shuttle is 15DKK. |

The wiki says free breakfast is for Plats; doesn't mention Gold. So free wifi & possible upgrade may be all you get. ACs don't usually have lounges & are not listed in the free breakfast or points brands.
Cheers. |

I saw that in the Wiki so is that ACs in general or this hotel in particular? This year, I have gotten breakfast at all my hotel stays but those were mainly Marriotts like the one at the Rome airport.
The only brands that are required to provide breakfast (or points if breakfast is declined) are Marriott, Autograph Collection (not to be confused w/ AC), Renaissance & JW Marriott. Since your stays were at Marriott (including the Rome one) you would be entitled to breakfast as a Gold member. However, at this AC property in Copenhagen you would not be entitled to breakfast due to it not being included as a brand standard. And because it appears the property only offers it to Plats (high tier). Cheers. |
Thank you. I get confused because last year two Courtyards in Hong Kong had lounges and I had at least a free breakfast and perhaps additional food in the afternoon.
Recently I was stayed in a Hyatt in Amman as gold and the breakfast was free - lounge or buffet downstairs - with additional food in the late afternoon. |

There have been no reports of free breakfast for Golds at the AC Bella Sky Copenhagen, just Plats, so think possible upgrade & free i-net is what you can expect as a Gold. Cheers. |
My team (mixture of Golds & Plats) stayed at the AC Bella Sky last week, and none of us were offered free breakfast.
As regulars at the Marriott Copenhagen (only staying at the AC because of capacity constraints at the former), was definitely a step down and felt very basic. Only two positive points above the Marriott: - better (more powerful) showers - better gym |
Stay Report - 10/22 - 10/24
Location: The hotel is located by the Bella Sky Convention Center. It's about 3 miles from "downtown" Copenhagen by which I mean City Hall Plaza or Tivoli and about the same from CPH. A cab from CPH costs 140 DKK (about $22 USD) and a Uber to the center of Copenhagen cost me 80 DKK (about $12 USD). Alterantively, 200 meters away is the Bella Sky stop on the M1 line of the Metro which you can take to Christiana in 7 minutes or Kongens Nytorv in 8 which get you near where most of the tourist sites are. Several bus lines also stop here including the 250S which you can take to Tivoli. There's not much around the hotel though that you can walk to. https://photos.smugmug.com/Travel/Co...IMG_8322-L.jpg Hotel: It's a hell of a building, that's for sure. Certainly one of the most unique looking structures I've stayed at, and also the largest hotel in Scandanavia! There's a small bar in the lobby as well as two restaurants on the second floor, one of which serves breakfasts only to Marriott elites. The top floor (23rd) has the Skybar which is worth visiting for a drink. The hotel is very new and feels bright, airy and spacious in all the common areas. https://photos.smugmug.com/Travel/Co...IMG_8535-L.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Travel/Co...IMG_8540-L.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Travel/Co...IMG_8504-L.jpg Skybar on the 23rd Floor Check In: Handled very efficiently by an agent who told me I'd been "upgraded" to a deluxe room and asked if I wanted to be charged in DKK or USD which was nice. They also let me check in at 1:30 which I appreciated. All the staff here were friendly and helpful. Room: Pretty odd layout, felt very modern art-y in the sense that it was minimalist in its design. I found towels in a drawer, you pressed panels on one wall to get to the safe and the mini bar and the bathroom is tiny. I will say that it's one of the most comfortable hotel beds I've ever slept in. Weirdly, there was no shampoo or conditioner or bath gel left for me but when I called down to get some, a housekeeper was at my door in two minutes. Wifi went down one night but other than that worked fine. Do note that "deluxe" room apparently means corner room, I don't think it's much bigger than a normal room. https://photos.smugmug.com/Travel/Co...IMG_8323-L.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Travel/Co...IMG_8324-L.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Travel/Co...IMG_8326-L.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Travel/Co...IMG_8327-L.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Travel/Co...IMG_8328-L.jpg Stray Observations: No free breakfast for Golds, it costs 180 DKK (about $27 USD), I passed. They do have an airport shuttle which runs every half hour from 6 am to 11 PM and costs 15 DKK (about $2 USD) which was a hell of a deal. I took them up on that and was really happy with it. Overall, a very good hotel and while I had to schelp a little to get to some off the sights, I'm glad I stayed here. |
Thanks for the detailed trip report - especially the pictures! Much appreciated.
Cheers. |
Some comments about this hotel, based on a recent stay as a Platinum:
1) Policy per front desk check-in agent is no free breakfast for Platinums ("we are not a full service Marriott hotel"), although in the end, I was comped breakfast as an courtesy exception (breakfast hours are 6;30 to 10:30, same on weekends); 2) Very limited room upgrade to center of hotel deluxe room facing wall of the other tower --- overall smallish room, nothing particularly deluxe --- with all the great views afforded by the very large, very tall hotel, this was very disappointing; 3) No free waters for Platinums in rooms (courtesy exception 1 free bottle from mini bar, but not a free Pepsi); 4) Broken internet, down for more than 24+ hours, no compensation; 5) No phone by the bed. Phones across the room at the desk. No portable phones. Very inconvenient. 6) Very small TV for a new hotel. 7) No bedside lock in room. 8) No room service/food available after 10 pm (exception: I was able to get one pre-made refrigerated cold chicken sandwich delivered tot the room at around 11pm for about DK 100: I find this very strange for such a large business hotel. 9) No top sheet and king bed contained two twin duvets, not a king duvet. 10) Low-medium quality linens and towels. 11) No bathrobes. 12) 5 minute walk to the Metro (subway)...could be reduced if they allowed entrance/exit out the back door during normal hours, but not available, despite numerous doors. Metro to downtown Copenhagen is about 10 minutes and cost is DK 24 one way 3#.50). Uber cost to downtown Copenhagen is about DK 85 ($12), 15+/- minutes. 13) Shuttle from airport leaves every 30 minutes on the 20s and 50s. Missed shuttle by a few mins so we took a taxi. 14) Shuttle to airport was free (coupon provided by the front desk, at least I think it was free), leaves on the half hour (30s and 60s), takes 15-20 mins with stop at the nearby Holiday Inn. Drop off is at Terminal 2...about 350 yard walk to Terminal 3. 15) Amenity points not posted. |
Thanks for the update. Much appreciated.
AC properties don't provide breakfast; not part of the brand standard. Some individual properties do, but not the norm. This property used to offer Plats free brekkie, so sounds like that's changed. Just noticed the property dropped to Cat 6 from 7 w/ the recent annual change. Cheers. |
Stayed at this hotel one night with my gf two weeks ago, as we needed to stay close to CPH in order to catch an early flight.
The Platinum arrival gift was two drink vouchers (including snacks) in the Sky bar. We managed to get two glasses of Barolo priced at 135DKK/20 USD each on the vouchers (plus the snacks), so it was definitely a very expensive arrival gift, compared to what I am usually offered in properties in Latin America and Caribbean. My rate included breakfast which was served in the smaller of the two restaurants. Felt very exclusive as the bigger one was packed with cruise guests already by 6.30. The rooms have already been described thoroughly above and I have not much new to add, so my data entry is really that you should definitely go for the Barolo rather than the 250 points as arrival gift, especially if you like a good wine. |
Thanks for the update. Much appreciated.
Cheers. |
I stayed here in November, and breakfast in the restaurant was available for Platinum members. However checking in yesterday I was explicitly told that they are only associated with Marriott, and don't have an executive lounge, so there is no breakfast available.
I was given a drink vouches for the Skybar, which is new. But amazingly it was only valid for the day of check-in. Platinum welcome gift. I will check if I can get the voucher extended as I fell asleep upon getting to the room. |
