JW Hanoi [Master Thread]

Although Marriott announced the construction of the JW Hanoi back in July 20, 2009, http://news.marriott.com/2009/07/mar...-vietnam-.html this property has never appeared in the New Hotel section of Marriott.com https://www.marriott.com/hotel-searc...tes.new-hotel/

by chance, today I saw that not only is the JW Hanoi now listed https://www.marriott.com/hotels/trav...t-hotel-hanoi/
but it has a March 2013 soft opening target.......

now if only one of the major brands would open a place in Halong Bay.......

Thanks for the update! BTW - on your last link, take out the ] at the end. When I click on the link you posted I get page not found, but if you take out the ] it brings up the hotel page you're referencing with the March '13 opening.

Thanks for the images! It's an interesting layout/building. Is that typical in that area?

Cheers.

JW Hanoi closing for rennovations maybe?

Does anyone have any information on the Hanoi JW being closed until about Sept. I couldn't get anything available until Sept and then someone told me they thought it was closed for rennovations? Any info? More importantly dates.
I need to go there for work for about three weeks and will plan it for when I can get into that hotel. I'll need those 21 nights at a Marriott to keep my status.

It isn't closed for renovations. My understanding is that it hasn't even opened yet.

Thanks for the update. I will be in SGN the first week of October and may make it up to Hanoi for a couple of days to see Halong Bay. Maybe I will check it out.

Halong Bay is still a 6-hr mini-bus ride from Hanoi due to very bad roads..........if you want to take one of the junk cruises suggest you overnight before/after at the Novotel (as the 2 SPG props never got further then their announcement!)......

Out of curiosity, does anyone know this area? I thought about staying here on points for a purely tourist visit, but it looks really quite far out of the way from all the parts of the city described in the guidebooks.

Any tips are appreciated.

the hotel is outside of the city center (over 5km) and you'll need a taxi, which are relatively inexpensive (and accept USD), to get around, but in all honesty there's not much sightseeing to be done in Hanoi.........

the original 2-week delay (from 01 September) for the Contractor to complete his work and start to get the systems on-line has come and gone......
although the propertry is attempting to get itself open "shortly" there's no definitive date of this happening (yet, based upon contact with the hotel today)......
