Anyone currently having luck with a product change from the SPG Amex Personal to another personal credit card? Have been reading conflicting reports of SPG -> HH or Delta in past years vs SPG -> nothing? In an ideal world, I’d be looking for SPG -> everyday (no fee) to preserve my account history. Thanks!

7/15 SPG Personal Offered $75 credit for $3K MSR Offer accepted for now, I will consider product change to retain account history.

I got a similar offer. $75 credit after $2,000 spend. The representative said because the program change is happening August 1st they are not compensating with points at this time because they don't have enough time to post Starpoints prior to the conversion. I should have called much sooner. Lesson learned.

I was just offered 3K with no spending requirement. Rep placed me on hold and added points immediately.

I've had the personal SPG Amex card for about five years. About $20K annual spend. I was charged the $95 annual fee on 7/7 and called today to cancel. Was told there were no retention offers because I accepted a $100 statement credit last year.

The rep told me about the free night upon renewal that I'd get in 2019, although I'll have just missed it this year. My understanding that "hang up call back" isn't likely to work anymore, since retention offers are strictly managed by the system? I might hold on to the card until 8/6, just on the off chance there is a particularly compelling upgrade offer to the SPG Luxury card -- but otherwise, I'll be calling back to close.

I opened in March, ~$8k spent YTD. Anyone got any offers because of a reduced earning after Aug 1? Wish they'd let me earn 3x pts at least for the first year.

Let me understand, you are inquiring about a retention bonus for an account that has been open five months?

I am inquiring about any kind of a promotion that would bring earnings from spend to 3x pts per $1 at least for the first year.

And why do you think that will happen?

Had my card opened 2 years, I put about 20k on it each yr. No retention bonus offered. Do I lose the nights/stay credit that I got from the card now that hte card is canceled?

That argument would make some sense if he or she paid $95 to open the account with the promise of earning 1x SPG point for a whole year. But, with the first year's fee waived, it really shouldn't happen.

Not going to happen. You haven't even paid an annual fee yet.

My fee just hit. Any chance at getting the free night that I would have gotten had the fee hit a couple days later?

20k offer

Just called amex as my spg card comes up for renewal on 8/14. I was offered 20k points after 2000 spend. She said they would be star points but I'm not so sure how that works with the upcoming conversion. Regardless, 20k Marriott points plus the free night are worth the 95.
