From personal experience with MOs, Discover, PenFed, and now Ally: Wait until the prelims of phone #, ID if necessary, total amount, receipt type, etc. are done and the system is ready for you to swipe, THEN tell the CSR you want to split the payment between two (or however many) cards and how much on the first swipe (only the first swipe for now, don't bombard them with too much info at once, after it's done then I tell the amount for the second, etc.)

thanks. I’ve always been a bit shy to ask for double swipes, if only because I’m already in my head that doing a $499 load with my Vani is already weird (because why not the full $500?). I felt a bit more confident using SS cards since those can swipe for the full $500 at my store, so it felt more natural and less weird to do b2b transactions. But if I could just do one $999 load with Ally vs go through the whole barcode and ID verification a 2nd time, that would be helpful. Not to mention, with the 5/trx/month limit, were talking about going from $2,500/month to $5k/month in loads, just by me working up the courage to do so.

of course auto draining would help quite a bit but I don’t blame anyone for not wanting to experiment

Auto drain caused a problem for me before (the cashier got suspicious right away and asked to see the card to make sure it’s not a gbit) so I avoid doing that by always tell the cashier the exact amount if I want to split pay.

Number of load or transactions

Nice Wonko ! How many transactions do you typically do per trip? I can reliably do two account loads without any raised eyebrows and can do three at the friendly locations.

I was told that I can’t do two separate transcriptions by a Walmart neighborhood store manager because she said “that’s call structuring and Walmart prohibits it”. I understand they don’t allow buy MOs in separate transactions but to say do two loads (or even one load and one MO) is also structuring just nonsense. But I couldn’t argue with her because she’s a very angry looking woman that scares me a lot. She even says doing once a week is still structuring. So my only option is to stop going to that store because she’s there every single day. :(

That's a bummer - could try going at a different time/day to see if you can find a window they aren't working. Could also just try to get a regular cashier to do it for you...I've had pretty low success rates with cashiers saying yes to that. They usually just point me to the MC.

Was she the one who was helping you at the MC or did she get looped in from another cashier? If she just happened to be working the desk when you tried to do it, I'd just go back and try with a different cashier.

If you live by other Walmarts, I'd just go to them instead lol

Only the service desk allowed

no, only the service desk is allowed to do that, and this is same in all Walmart stores here in the city.
The only thing I didn’t try is to change the time from evening to morning which is almost impossible for my schedule. Fortunately I don’t do a lot of ms so it’s not too hard to quit cold turkey. I don’t know about you guys but I find this ms thing very stressful so I question myself if it actually worth it.

99.9% of the time she’s the only one doing it when I went. Since she’s a manager and it’s a small neighborhood market store no fixed person works at the desk so if customers come to desk this manager will come to the desk to do it. I chose to go to that store because it’s relatively close to my gym and most importantly their system isn’t as strict as the large stores when taking Gbit cards. The large stores not only have strict velocity limits but also stricter no gbit policy, for instance: don’t allow split pay or ask to see the cards.

I have one WM which never lets me do anything at the cashier and that has been the case for years. I keep asking one a month just to test the system, but it is what it is :(

Fortunately, not the case with my usual WMSC store, which is filled with pleasant, for the most part, friendly folks.

Sadly, my take on your neighborhood WM is that the manager has your number, which is too bad. I would drop any activity at this store for at least several months or more, with the expectation that your less than friendly manager gets moved either to a different department, time or store. It may take longer.

yeah, that’s what I plan to do: not going there for a while. As far as seeing her leave, I don’t see that happening. Ive been going to that store for 4 or 5 years now and see some face changes but she always there. I should explain that the 1% of time that she’s not there every other people was super friendly to me and I gave them snack bars often.

Most WM's are open 15+hrs per day. You need to figure out what her schedule is and work accordingly.
I have a local WM where I never go after 3pm, because there is a 70-80% chance I will run into the CSR who wants to see the card. I have never seen that CSR in the morning at WM

Thanks for the advice. I also thought about that but unfortunately it’s almost impossible for me to go in the mornings.

Is it possible to load with the physical card only? Walmart has an old ban tied to my driver’s license, and their system blocked me today because they scanned my DL.

can I ask what led to the ban?

I usually just do Discover loads at the counter but now with Ally, it’s my first barcode required account and the fact that they have to check my ID and sometimes even scan it makes me curious what Walmart actually shows their employees—like how frequently I’m depositing, number of accounts, etc.

Can anyone confirm if having multiple Ally spending accounts means we get 5 loads per spending account? Or is it 5 loads per Ally relationship?
