2023 Shutdown Thread

Damn some of you are scaring the hell out of me lol. How much are you guys MSing that causes you to get shutdown?

I've only started with 4-5k a month and want to scale to 10k between different cards in total not each card. Is 6k one card and 4k on another card enough for shutdown or suspicioun?

Are you talking about USAlliance cards? or you're trying to MS on something else?

I am currently buying gift cards with citi cards and wyndham earners. I also just opened a bofa checking account to deposit MOs but read many people here got shut down.

At the moment I am doing 4k on premier card, $500 custom cash and $500 on barclays wyndham monthly. Eventually I want to increase

Those cards are probably safe for low-volume MS. We were walking about USAlliance only. Anyone who did any kind of meaningful MS got the axe in december. The card has since been capped to a tiny annual limit on 6x cashback.

This thread seemed more for shutdowns all together

it is, but you mentioned being scared of a shutdown after reading about USAlliance posts. That was a special case. Normally you can get a way with reasonable MS for a very long time, with most CC.

This is true but you should qualify it a bit for the newbies. And this is my opinion only on an internet chat ;)

CC's are basically a bank lending you money and if you pay back the loan on time, the bank eats the cost of the loan to you, while making up their loss by the charges they apply to merchants accepting their bank card. (Obviously, if you don't pay on time, then you are making the bank lots of money in interest rates and fees :o:))

Banks do review credit card accounts and match the customer's financial status with the amount of charges going through each month. So, if you are an Amazon worker making $35k a year but pushing $25k a month through your CC and paying it off on time, there is going to be a disconnect that some examiner is going to review, and once human eyes are applied to an account, that is when the 'fun' starts.

Littlewinglet is correct when he says reasonable MSing. If that Amazon worker has three or four CCs but only does low four digit spend and pay off on each, then it is likely that he will fly under the radar unless something attracts attention to his account. OTOH, there are lots of DPs of people doing huge spend and pays successfully, but what we don't know is how many banks and CC companies have shut them down in the past. And we certainly don't know how many people have been put on the ChexSystem list and cannot get accounts at many banks at all. (The ultimate 'Are you banned')

So, IMO, think like a bank. Does your spend match your income or is it wildly discordant?

This just happened to me with Star One. New account 6/2022. Started depositing MO's in July 10 per month, eventually withdrawing but not all the dollars and not right away after depost. Been doing this until today got a call for why the transactions. My son owe's me for a loan. I deposit here to keep things separate, then cash out to the lending company. Ok, I'l pass this along. Nothing else said. Go to log on, locked out. Called again. well sorry forgot to tell you you can't access your 5k. Not sure how long it will be until we have time to review, can't promise a month. Should I file a CFPB or wait it out?

They cannot keep your money and they know that. However, they will make you wait and the existing DPs here indicate some get their paper check in the mail in one week and others wait mare than 6.
I would say that if you have not gotten your money within 10-14 business days from the time of closure, then filing a CFPB will probably be needed to goad them into immediate action.

Keep your volume very low with Barclays. I hit the Wyndham card very hard, was never late with a payment, and never paid a cent of interest. Barclays slammed the door on me for life. It's been over six years and they still won't let me back. FICO is 840 and whenever I apply for a Barclay's card, it is denied immediately without even doing a hard pull. I've spoken to them a number of times without avail.

Thank you for that DP. I was shut down on A+ right about 6 years ago, was debating if I should try it again. I heard some anecdotal evidence that after 7-8 years the ban may be erased, or maybe that was for Citi.

When can we get into chase credit cards again ?

Also got shut down from Cap 1 in 2018, tried again in Sep 2022 , got it approved but account got closed in 5 days. Atleast new account which got booted , didnt show up in credit reports till now.

I have heard people reporting they got back on Chase after 6-7 years. I had similar stories as you, shutdown in 16, tried to open another cc account in 2018, apporved on the spot but was shutdown after a month.

For Chase, I've read that it depends on the reason for the shutdown. If it was HEAVY MS on a lot of cards that can be longer. Light on a single or few cards, less.

What they call SUB abuse is different. Why was P2 shutdown?
