Welp, now would be a good time for BOA or Citi to introduce a BB/Serve-like product.

I am pretty sure that these closures will continue. I think eventually AMEX might close the program altogether or limit it further. Clearly the goals they had were not people with the incomes on this board to move money around. Wal-Mart hoped to get business from this selling merchandise, not money orders and such. The idea was to get the unbanked customer, (banked).

I made the mistake of posting this the morning the shutdowns happened. It quickly got lost in the huge rush of posts that followed. It looks like people have already started providing a few data points, but a standard format would be very helpful.
We need data points on re-applying. If we open a new account, will it be approved, or denied/quickly shut down? Will they (as someone suggested earlier) approve new accounts for the new products (with higher fees, etc.)? Anybody who does apply, please include as much of the following info as possible: -Which product you had (that got shut down) -Which product you applied for -How you applied (online, bought a temp card at Walmart, etc.) -The results (immediate approval/denial, a message that it was under review, etc.) -How long you waited between closing one account and applying for the other -Whether you used all the same contact details (address, phone, email, etc.) on the new application as you had on the old card |

Good Riddance MS! I'm just sick of this ..... So much wasted time. Minimum wage workers trying to judge you and look at you like some criminal. All for what? A free night at a hotel or a free flight somewhere.
We have no concept of opportunity costs in the MS world. It simply is not worth it. I am collecting miles and points for programs that keep getting devalued. Airlines and hotels treat their frequent flyer customers with a type of disgust and disdain. So it's cool when you are making profits luring people into chasing miles and points with your ...... promos. But as soon as I want to redeem anything you are giving me crappy customer service, devaluations, and blackouts. Whenever you check into a hotel on points they look at you funny, treat you like a second-class customer, and try to give you a ...... room. Unless you book a flight 12 months in advance with miles, good luck getting a decent flight. Those who want to can keep wasting their time, but I am going to go ahead and enjoy my life and spend my time doing things more worthwhile. |
Grocers store will charge you 70 cents for a MO Big deal..cost of doing business,,,

Well I had one in my name and one in my brothers for 1 year. At least I got 120k miles out of it. Got emails on both accounts over the weekend. Oh well... What's next people...help me out.

I called just for the heck of it, and was told what others were told--they don't know why, and write a letter.
I then called AmEx (charge card division) on a totally different matter, but at the end of the conversation inquired about BlueBird. The representative called over to Bluebird and when she returned indicated that they were unable to provide any information. However, the agent did say that Bluebird is not a true AmEx product. She indicated that the AmEx name was licensed. Not sure if that is true or not, but it may make sense. |

I suspect we will be able to register for new versions of Serve within the next month. I hope. |
Two new bluebird accounts, set up a week after redcard was finished, not used until the end of December.
Still working. Just finished loading up to the 5k for January on both cards this morning at the Kate. |

Me. Both my wife and I have BB with a bank account linked (same account link to both...probably not my smartest move). We both were shut down. Both BB's were loaded with VGC, then paid some bills and transferred the remaining balance back to our bank account each month.

I think the most recent accounts survived. 1/5 survived because it was opened in mid December.
12/22 - loaded 3,800 as of this date 12/22 bill pay 12/23 - loaded total of 5k |
Indeed a big deal over here in Cocaine Cowboyland - the MOs are 89 cents at Publix. If the cost gets any higher we will have to figure how to MS with real estate transactions following the lead of all our ML folk.
