@ one of our Ralphs the cashier punched my DL# into the register the other day. Seems like they're enforcing the limit now. Don't care though as I never buy more than $500 at a time.

Data point - Central KY - VGCs cash / debit only
 

Went into my regular store today and was told cash / debit only for all VGCs. I asked to see the new policy and the store couldn't produce. However, CS got on the phone with the area manager (manages most of central KY), but I wasn't able to stay long enough to find out answer. Advised store I would return tomorrow to see the new policy.

I'm not too concerned at this point as CS told me they recently sold an individual $3,000 in GCs with a CC (I'm assuming there were fraud issues from the tone of the conversation). Isn't that against the policy anyway? Max is $2,000 including fees with cc as pymt. method. This could be a knee-jerk reaction to a highly visible issue in my area or it may be yet another misinterpretation of the existing policy. I'll report back and let you know what I find out. Anyone else have any data points?

Same cashier that sold GCs to you in the past or someone new?

I am not sure what you guys are doin to get money orders or literally anything done at the service desk from using a VGC at Kroger, but the systems are hard coded in columbus OH to reject them. Neither of the Cashiers at both the Kroger's I tried knew that i was using a VGC. The system is what denied it.

I go at different hours during the day and after SD closes so I don't have a regular cashier. However, one person did recognize me as having come in before. They said the directive came from the regional office and were on the phone with them trying to produce the new policy in writing so I could see it. I didn't get a chance to return to the store yet (see previous post), but will report back next week on what happens.

Ufff, for a minute I thought you were in Central OH, but then I went to your previous post. I just do not understand how people go all the way to the max allowed ($2,000) per visit, but guess they want to do everything fast and of course, be immediately on the radar of stores. I just stick to one every time I go (many times also buying groceries) and I have never had a problem in my 3 Krogys. Also, I always tell the cashiers I am desperate for Krogy to start using Chip & Signature, which will make transactions safer for everyone (I lived in Europe, I know Chip & Pin is way better), and now they remember me well. So still, no problem at all to get the VVGCs.

I got a catalina but mine says Dec 8 too.

New experience today. One kroger turned on Chip terminals. And, there's no more DL check. Clerk said something about Kroger would track it based on CC number. Could be good, could be bad...
