I think the rats fall into the first category while newbies are in the second. Maybe I'm wrong, but I assume the people trying to shut down MS already know about Flyertalk and reddit and other popular sites, and they already know the lingo. When I just now googled "manufactured spending", Flyertalk was the 3rd on the list, so the secret's out.
