One Vanilla MO problems...
Hi folks. Today I tried to purchase some MOs using One Vanilla cards. The first transacation was for $2K. the first three cards went thru fine. The fourth woudn't work. I tried two more OV cards, but neither would work. Had to bust out a "real" debit card.
Went to another store and tried to purchase MOs with some other OV cards. None would take. FWIW, I purchased 5K of OVGCs in a single transaction. These are the cards I was trying to use. Has this happened to anyone else? Did the Vanilla company recognize these unique numbers were all just purchased moments before, on a single transaction? This has been my typical MS pattern with no problems before today. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks! |
Possibility that the barcode strips on the cards are bad, call in and verify the balance. Chances are you will need to Amazon Payment them....

When that happens I reset the PIN online, then go to my local supermarket and buy something under a dollar and set a new pin on the pad. Then go and buy the MO.
|
I couldn't get cash back for my $1 debit purchase at Wally's using a VGC today.

I just did 7500 in money orders today at Wallys with OV. No problem. I am going to cool off though. Because I don't want to piss off either my bank - or my card issuers.

Not sure on timing, but typically OVGCs need about 2 hrs after purchase to be fully activated. I've had the same problem as carsonheim when trying to liquidate right after purchase. A couple OV cards work but a couple didn't. The non working ones worked the next morning.

How do you set a PIN for OV online? I've always used any 4 numbers at the keypad. Never a problem.

I haven't had a problem with unloading within 30 minutes of purchase either. Done 6 OVs this week so far without a problem

I got 99 problems but a One Vanilla ain't one.

For Wally MO transaction, the maximum swipe is three. Your fouth swipe will fail the entire transaction. Suggest you break your purchase into two!

It's actually 4 swipes. For bluebird loads, the bluebird swipe counts as one of the loads, but for MOs 4 swipes with GCs works every time.

One Vanilla MO problems...
Just an update to my original post: went to Wally's yesterday and used for MO with no problems. Was just a glitch I guess.
|
Several WM's I've been to have explicitly stated that they won't take debit cards for MO's or BB loads without raised numbers and a name on the card. This is not a good sign, although I showed her my paypal debit card and then employed some sleight of hand to put the One Vanilla card through when swiping my cards... so I know it's not hard coded, probably just a store to store policy - so far.

I bought a few in upstate New York today. Worked ok. I did run into one zealous cashier last week who shot me down since OVD didn't have my name on it.

How to Clear (Reset) a Pin on OneVanilla
A month ago when I was converting four $500 OV's to MO's at Wally's (paying the 70 cent fee for each separately with cash), a couple of times the 3rd or 4th OV swiped as "decline". Both times, I took my $1,000 MO from the two OV's that did swipe successfully and went home.
For the two declined OV's, I called the 800 number on the back and verified that they did, in fact, have $500 loaded on each one. Here is the key: There is a choice on the OneVanilla phone menu that allows you to clear the pin. Not sure, I think it is menu choice '8'. Menu choice '6' allows you to check another card without hanging up and calling back. This had a happy ending. The next day, I was able to unload the two OV at WallyMart. I think this was caused by "operator error" -- either me mis-swiping or the clerk messing up. I don't know which. Now I just do one $1,000 MO's at a time with a pair of $500 OV. The store clerks or me are too unreliable to handle more. For the pin, "1111" or any four digits work fine. The point is this: If you get an unload "fail", excuse yourself politely, walk away and check your OV's at home & clear the pin. Try again later. FYI, the phone menu for OV works better than the website, which is crap. |

I've used OV at least several times a week and four cards each time to buy MOs. Never any problem. Also four cards can get u $2000 worth of MOs without an SAR form. Anything over four can require filling out SAR.

My understanding is that buying $2k-$2,999.99 in MOs may result in a SAR if the transaction is deemed "suspicious" (completely subjective). $3k and over and a SAR must be filed. So if you really want to be safe from SARs when buying MOs, keep it to $1,999.99 and under.

This is definitely spreading... pretty much every WM in Socal that I've come across has their cashiers parroting this policy. Going up to Seattle this weekend, hopefully it hasn't spread up there yet. Have $10k OV's I need to liquidate, even if I had to do it on vacation.

I visited 4 WM's in Richmond, Va., today and none would allow BB loading with OV.
