Citi Advantage and VR
I went through many posts and I couldn't find anything relating to Citi Advantage MC and VR. I want to use this card to buy a $500 VR to meet a 1000 spend. Will Citi allow using the card to buy the VR?
Citi Platinum Select Mastercard. 30,000 miles after $1k spend in 3 months. $95 annual fee, waived 1st year. |
If it's just one 500 VR, the only problem I can see is the fraud alert/block if it's a brand new card with no or few transactions. I had no problem with the visa or amex version.

no problems with my new AA Visa, multiple VRs, only the citi stepped in quite quickly to close my first statement (2 day range) as I was ramping up my spend to get to $2.5k, spend met within a week, statement generated with $1.5k

I've used both Citi AA Visa and AMEX cards to buy VRs (2 each per month) for the past 3 months. The only issue I had was the first time, when I received a fraud alert on each card. After that was resolved, there have been no problems.

Just remember that 2 or so months ago, you could have got lots of similar reports of success from Thank You Preferred (5x) users on all their VR/GC spend!
It might be that Citi cares less about this, because the cost is shared with AA, and it's 1x rather than 5, or it might be that THEY (whoever they are) haven't started paying attention to this yet. |

OK, but Citi is closing lots of the TYP accounts (along with all other Citi cards the cardholder has) so clearly, at least in that instance, they do care.
