I live in Chicago. Have been buying 10K Vanilla Reloads for 2 Bluebird cards in house for last 3 months. Availability here has been never a problem. Most of the stores have nearly 100% availability.

Limit is 1K per day but since I cannot load more than 1K in Bluebird, that is never an issue.

I generally buy in 10 first days after my statement closes and pay back the cards a week before due date. That way zero balance when statement is issued.

Credit cards cash back percentage minus 0.79% from VR fees is the net gain.

Far from it, availability is generally good. Got 4 cards in 2 separate transactions with not even a question asked.

I guess you missed the irony...

In LA area I have been visiting a few CVS stores - majority of them dont allow VRs with CC. All of them have availability though. Might have to drive a bit far.

Did those CVS stores use to allow Credit Cards?

I recognize the irony and just want to report that far from the sky falling, in my area there seems to be better availability than ever and no $1k limit, writing of names, or any such restriction at most locations. That said, I did encounter one location I used to frequent on my commute that mentioned a limit - and it is in a slightly sketchy area (there's typically a security guard at the door, unlike almost every other CVS I've been to). Haven't bothered since then despite its convenience.

Availability at my CVS has never been better. However, due to an irate individual purchasing VR then getting confused and demanding they be returned (which apparently cannot be done), a manager must now process the transaction. I have to wait for a manager to be called and this limits my repeated purchases within the same day.

The weak link here is always the idiotic people involved.

On another note, a couple of CVS' are now enforcing a $1k limit on the total of prepaid/reloadable/gift cards in one transaction. I ran into when I tried to purchase 2 VR's plus a $15 iTunes card. The cashier just rang the iTunes card up as a second transaction. I then tried this at a different store the next day and same thing. It appears to be hard coded in the register. Not a big deal, no need for panic.

IIRC, this has been the sase since day 1. I'v never been able to do more than $1k in a single transaction, regardless of how many I was actually buying

The iTunes card is to throw the CC companies off huh;)
Not sure if that will work, I have a feeling that the CC companies can get detailed information on what was purchased, at least that is what is my experience with Amex.

Same here, other than the obvious - $1k of VR plus fee is ok.

Had no issues with adding a Easter candy that was on closeout.

yes - $1,000 per transaction of GC load. Never any issue adding non GC items for a total over $1k
