Nope. I've used one and the fee was $2.50.

AFT is a separate and quite different product from Redbird (which you can use at the Allpoint ATMs inside Target).

worldtravels Nov 13, 2014 2:21 pm

Checking the wiki, it says

"Max 1 purchase per ss# per day."

So this means I can put 2 AFT cards in my name and SS# as long as I buy the cards on different days?

Yes, there's a schedule posted in the Wiki on how to do it.

A question: does VGC or MC GC can be used to load AFT like AGC, ie. draw all available fund in the card automatically? TIA

FYI choose credit not debit if you want the card to be auto-drained.

zgrzfg Nov 14, 2014 8:31 am

Loaded $1k at Target yesterday but the fund did not show up in my AFT account today and the charge already posted in my CC account. called Amex right now and the indian reps says he can not do anything but ask me to go back to the Target store to get refunded. ...! there is nothing to do with Target!

Had similar experience as you and the indian representative asked me to fax in receipts. Asked for a supervisor and the supervisor told me that I will hear back in 24 hours...Based on previous posts, this probably means nothing will happen but I will give them this and see what happens tomorrow...

I had to call two times and both never asked for receipts and they acknowledged it was a computer error. I was told they'd email them supervisor and I would get the money put back within a day the first time. Didn't get it so I called again and was told within 48 hours. Oddly enough I got the money back exactly on the 48th hour lol. Just make sure when you call, have them put notes on your account.

jackiesyu Nov 15, 2014 10:24 am

Just to update, my account actually got the money credited back, so it works out fine for me. They did make it work in 24 hours, will give them credit for that, but having to call in to fix the situation, it is very very annoying.

Anyone know if AFT cards are eligible for Amex Sync offers and/or Small Business Saturday?
Thanks!

Nope...according to FM.

The following cards are not eligible for Amex Offers:
American Express gift cards
American Express Prepaid card
American Express Campus Edition card
American Express for Target card
REDbird: Target Prepaid REDcard
Authorized user accounts for cards issued by banks other than Amex

This recently happened to me this past week with word "void" shown on the AFT card transaction history. Happened same day as the load transaction.

I checked Barclays and it was posted within 48 hours. I thought perhaps the process would work itself out with Target or AFT pulling back the charge without consumer action. I will wait 7 days, then, push it up a notch, starting with a phone call. Sounds like it will require more than one call....

I thought the coast was clear on this. I was about to do some loads this weekend.

Sorry this happened to you all. Just as a datapoint, on 11/19, I loaded two AFTs with an AGC and both showed up on my AFT accounts.

I think the load issues are unpredictable and random. I've loaded AFTs several times since my voided load issue without a problem; but, I also had 1 of 6 Redbird purchases fail (different store than my AFT load issue) with the same mini "We're Sorry!" receipt. YMMV

Nope, AFT is registered to you with your SSN.

mplst Nov 22, 2014 9:52 pm

I loaded 4 cards today, one failure. Reported balance was N/A. Indian call center told me to fax in receipt and it would be resolved in a matter of hours. going on 10 hours, 2nd call no funds on the card. Currently on hold...

TatorTodd Nov 25, 2014 1:59 pm

I live in the SF Bay Area, and work in the east bay...

I've been having problems with two specific Targets where they say they are no longer allowed to load them due to fraud concerns. Luckily, I have a ton of Targets around me....

mplst Nov 25, 2014 7:43 pm

Calling again to check on status of the load. At least the hold music is Beatles.

Hmmm. At the cashier, it is indeed possible to purchase two cards, one per spouse, with only one DL, and with one spouse present. Trusting cashier and of course matching last names.

How many spouses do you have?

I have two AFT cards, one has $500 balance, and another one $900 balance.
Last time I loaded was Sept.

If I want to load again, the max I can load for card #1 is $2000 and for card #2 is $1600, so both will reach $2500?

or each card I can load max $2500?

I am not sure the $5000 limit is for max loading or max balance. Can anyone clarify it for me? Thank you very much!

I would do $3000 on one card and $2000 on the other to maximize miles.

One card does not know what the other is doing, does it?

touristtrap Dec 4, 2014 10:24 am

I started loading $997 instead of $1000 from AGC. Much more convenient IMHO.

Any reasons not to continue doing so?

True. I'll bet that AMEX knows what both are doing, though.

To be sure. But the point is, read the wiki. The max load per card is $2500 and the example uses 2 cards = $5000. So one can just do the math per card...

Loading
Codes as purchase on all cards.
Load fee $3
Max $1000 per card in 24 hour period.
Max $5000 total for both cards per 28 day rolling period.
May load any card *until* balance is $2500 for 28 day period (not *up to*)

wiki says:

System will allow a $1000 load on a card with a $2000 balance so long as you are under $5000 for all cards over 28 day period.

so, the max balance on both cards is $5000, isn't it?
Since I have $500 on card #1 and $900 balance on card #2, max load for both cards in total for me is 5000-500-900=3600, isn't it?

Thanks again.

Ok fine but try to be as clear as possible when you post. Imagine others who may not know what you are thinking. Don't you mean to ask if the total is $2000+$1600=$3600? $2000 left to load on the card w $500 on it and $1600 left to load for the one w $900 on it?

bworrell Dec 5, 2014 3:25 pm

I just had a strange thing happen... I forgot that I was only supposed to load one of my cards today, but was able to load both by doing it on one transaction.
11/24 -- Load $1000 each card
11/28 -- Load $1000 each card
12/5 -- Load $1000 each card

How was that possible?

Wiki states that "System will allow a $1000 load on a card with a $2000 balance so long as you are under $5000 for all cards over 28 day period" However, you state that you now have 3k on each card right now...is that correct? Not quite sure how you were able to exceed the 5k max balance...does your receipt say anything about a VOID load on any of the cards that you just loaded?

How exactly is that more convenient? You are just giving up credit card points on $3 worth of spending for no reason.

No... each card had a very minimum balance on it before the 12/5 load. I guess it let me load $6000 over that 28 days -- must have been a fluke. I'll try to re-load $1000 each when my 11/24 load drops off.

babykoala Dec 6, 2014 10:23 am

Load $75+ at Target and get a 20% off voucher that can be used the following week Dec 7-13. I'm sure we can load much more than $75. I've got a coupon per load today.

Well, cashiers are not confused about splitting payments ($996 + $7 etc.) and loosing 15 points or miles / month (180 per year) is not that significant loss IMO.

$997 + $3 makes a nice, round number for AGCs.
