Amanpuri (Phuket, Thailand) - Quick Update

Made a couple of trips to Puri in the last month. A year or two ago, I felt like things were a little off, but on the last visits I have to say the place is really amazing.

They've fixed up the pavilions (plumbing, AC, lights.)
Food (especially Thai and Japanese) are outstanding
The grounds are much better kept.
Beach is pristine (a dozen people working on it early every morning)
The service is better than it's ever been.... super attentive, very personal and incredibly friendly

Not sure what happened, but I think management must be doing an outstanding job.

I would not have said so two years ago, but I'd have to say Puri is now really the premier beach resort anywhere. Very impressive.

Thank you for the review! Amanpuri was struck off my list based on some pretty negative comments here in recent years. I had dinner + looked around back in late-2017 and really liked what I saw, and this makes me want to actually book a stay. Shame Phuket is so...passé.

I think that GM, Nicolas Béliard has made a difference - ex-Peninsula, he is a proper hotelier!

It's the Aman flagship property. It should be the pinnacle.

I feel like kila took over some time ago as the flagship beach property. Puri just got too large to retain the original Aman ethos.

Given the collective knowledge of FT luxury travelers, why not create our own hotel chain that gets it right? Perhaps channels the Aman of years past.

Really? The best thing about it is being able to enjoy it without having to do any of the work or thinking.

I love Puri.

But that new building the plonked in and filled with stuff to buy is so random.
