The Lanesborough is my favorite London hotel. Adore their suites. Also fond of Claridge’s although I’ve found staff there err on the snooty side. When I’m doing mostly theatre and want to pay a little less, I opt for the Covent Garden Hotel.

Lilibet is a Siberian forest cat, a breed said to be hypoallergenic. She is a proper cat, somewhat aloof. Lanesborough staff are outstandingly kind, helpful and professional. I once was lost in an unsavory and distant part of London, unable to get a cab. They sent one of the house cars for me and the driver handed me a thermos of tea, and spoke soothingly.

As is the case with many luxe hotels in London, there are X-night-free offers that bring down the gasping rates.

Lilibet, Tea in the Park suite at the Lanesborough and welcome goodies:

Wonderful details, KatW! That cat however looks like it works at Claridge’s... ;) (attitude)

Take it from my cat-obsessed grade schooler, The Lanesborough is an absolutely gem. Service more than makes up for my personal distaste about the room styling.

Luxury Hotel with a Lounge

Any recommendations for hotels that have a great club lounge experience? We love an intimate club lounge where we can have breakfast, afternoon tea and drinks, and even a light meal. Also like being able to have concierge-like service from lounge staff.

Many thanks.

Langham
Athenaeum

Most luxury hotels don’t have club lounges, the thinking being the extant offerings are sufficiently pleasing.

I really dislike the Langham for many reasons (decor, clientele, location), but the food in the club lounge has always been excellent. Especially the pastry program.

I’ve always liked the location, being so close to the Regent’s Park. As for the decor, I think they re-did the rooms a couple times. What’s the clientele like? Never stayed here so not too sure.

Love this thread!

Like in Paris, a good club lounge in London seems to be worth it, IMO.

Are there are other nice hotels besides the Langham and IC Park Lane I should be looking at for an August trip? I have only been to London twice and stayed over in Kensington at the Hotel Indigo but finances are a bit better now.

(May even consider the Berkeley with the nice 4th night free rate and rooftop pool (no lounge, I know....).

Athenaeum Hotel & Residences

Does anyone have any recent experience to share about a stay at the Athenaeum?

Anyone have emails for concierge, reservations, front desk?

Many thanks!

Where will be feel comfortable?

We like luxury living, but don't like to get dressed up. Looking at a London hotel where I don't have to prance around with a sport jacket, and my wife does not need to be in a dress, high heels, or pearls.

Are their certain hotels we should avoid, and some luxury properties that will not turn up their noses at us?

Thanks for your insights.

This matches how I would describe my family’s travel style. Hotel Cafe Royal is really great (we have yet to find a Set hotel we don’t adore), if you can deal with the lackluster location.

I was really high on the Pan Pacifc but it’s gone downhill in many ways. Still great, but not spectacular. Physical plant is amazing however.

Definitely NOT the Ritz. Probably not the Dorchester, Lanesborough or any hotels in Mayfair…
