Airrail/DB newbie questions

I have, for the first time ever, booked a ticket (Economy Light) that includes a train segment FRA—Köln. Please excuse these questions if they are naive:

1. I presume it's OK to get off and on in Bonn, which is where I actually need to be?
2. Do I have to take the specific trains specified on my ticket, or am I free to catch earlier ones?

You have to take the specified train but can leave the train in Bonn.

Thanks very much! In case there are delays with either means of transport, do I need to be rebooked, or can I hop on the next available train?

I think the OP wants to board the train in Bonn rather than Koln for the trip TO FRA.

However, I wonder why the ticket wasn't purchased from Bonn. Even when LH ran its own airport express train between FRA and DUS, it stopped in Bonn.

Indeed. Bonn is my destination, and the origin of my return. I guess I simply wasn't engaging my brain sufficiently when purchasing to consider whether it would make a difference.

As long as the train you are booked on stops at Bonn I think you can get on and off there. On the way back make sure to check in online before the train leaves Köln.

Thanks. If it doesn't, there's always the Claire Zachanassian method.

Be advised, though, that you can't board or deboard at Bonn HBF. The Express Rail trains (formerly AIRail) coming from Köln stop at a station called Siegburg/Bonn! You'll need a separate ticket for the S-Bahn and/or tram for the short hop between Siegburg/Bonn and your final destination.

Thanks very much, I didn't know that! The S-Bahn-net is a very useful relic of the old capital city status, and will come in handy.

Most likely this is what you will be taking

https://www.swb-busundbahn.de/filead...rplaene/66.pdf

Lines 66 & 67 go from Central Bonn to Siegburg.
