I think that summarizes it pretty good. I have the same feeling. The inconsistensies in particular are a big issue and that could be addressed if they wanted to.

Being based in VIE, I must say that I greatly appreciate my HON status since over a year.
It makes travel way easier: fantastic OS HON team that is very responsive on email/phone, HON entrance at VIE, FRA transfers are a breeze (ok, bit of a walk to the FCT, but we're sitting for hours on a plane so a 20 min walk isn't that bad), escorts through security etc.
It makes travel occasionally even fun: frequent op-ups to F, limo rides instead of crammed busses, and frankly, the LH F ground services are amazing in FRA, MUC and JFK.
Having been top-tier FF with AC and EY in the past, MM HON is way better in terms of perks.
Is it worth it? Probably depends mostly on your base location and travel destinations. LH/LX don't have the best C product (OS being a notch better) in the world, but they do for sure on transatlantic routes.

I do appreciate it since 2,5 years now.
The LX HON team is awesome too. Very responsive, always very helpful in case of irrops. It is now very very very relaxed traveling...
PA on arrival (except LH in HKG i.e.) and departure, especially in Asia is great ; it made me save a lot of time in NRT, HKG,...
I have also been invited to some LX HON events since then, a very nice add-on.
@OP: if you want to shower and change cloths on arrival, put some spare cloths into your carry-on; go to FCL on arrival, after leaving FCL go and collect your checked bags. Easy peasy.

I've been CX DM in the past and I don't know what all the fuss here is about? I never had it recognised in the air, the only real advantage to me personally was being able to hold and request redemption seats, and there always being someone to answer the phone instantly.
I have a number of top tier statuses and to be honest they very very rarely make a difference in the air. My SQ PPS status has never once been recognised.. that said, I couldn't care less because the SQ crew are generally pretty great with service.
Bit of a side question, this year I'll finish my second M&M qualifying year with almost 550,000 HON miles... the majority of which are from this year. I've never been HON before, but in my profile all the references are between 01.01.2015 - 31.12.2016. Will both years reset at the end of this year, or will the count then change to 01.01.16 - 31.12.17 for HON qualification. If it resets, I need to decide if "HON is worth it" to go an extra 50-60K miles... which seems like a lot but would just be an extra visit to family in LA and Sydney. If 2016 and 2017 can count, I should hit HON in April or May with travel already booked for next year, which in my understanding will give me >2.5yrs of HON.. Any advice?

On 1.1.2017 you will loose your HON miles from 2015 for qualification, but keep the HON miles from 2016. So 2016 + 2017 will count for your qualification.
So if you qualify in April/May 2017, you will be HON until 02/2020.
Your requalification period will then be 2018 & 2019.

HON was certainly worth it for me today ^
Flying BHX- MUC- XXX on a cheap P fare, got stuck on the M6 Motorway for Six and a half hours, it was completely closed, missed my first flight, called HON line who politely reminded me of the T&C it’s not changeable or cancellable and then said as a special favour for a valuable HON we are rebooking you to the next flight free of charge ^
I made another call 2 hours later as we still had not moved an inch, different operator, same story & rebooked again free of charge, this time they added, your lucky it’s the last seat in Business class ^
The call waiting times were less than 10 seconds, HON Circle excelled today & for me HON is definitely worth it.

Great to hear they were willing to help you! If somebody does it all the time, I would understand that they stick to the rules. But in exceptional cases, such as yours, they should apply some informal „flat tire rule“, even for things like a major traffic jam.

LH IT is a complete joke.
Certainly they get most aspects of HON Circle right with a dedicated team & instructions from the Top to take care of us, their attitude yesterday was spot on, not just the help provided.
i have travel insurance anyway for such occasions but they saved me the time & effort of claiming on that !

Yes I also had some routing and ticketing rules bent recently, and pro-actively (without me asking them to) by the HON team in order to make some booking changes happen. Was very surprised and also very pleased as it made my journey shorter and painless. Very impressed.

Habe been trying to find travel insurance in Germany to cover things like traffic jams or flat tires on the way to the airport, and sadly have not (yet) been able to find one.
