I haven't been out to the bars in Boston for a while but here is a site that lists some : www.bgladco.com/bars/barbost.htm

My favorite used to be Chaps which is now called Vapor and my second favorite was Ramrod.

Sorry but I can't give you much info. on hotels nearby.

Here is a list of the local gay news papers.

www.guidemag.com
www.baywindows.com
www.innewsweekly.com

I would say that the Chandler Inn and the Oasis Guest House are within walking distance of gay bars. Check them out at the web sites listed above.

The Chandler Inn has a gay bar on its first floor and gets a busy crowd, kind of like the Central Bar in Paris. The Inn is a few minutes away from the Club Cafe where there are several bars in its complex plus a restaurant and a gym in its basement. Just down the street from the Chandler is the Boston Eagle. The Eagle is a small bar but nice for conversation.

Close to the Chandler are many of the city hotels. Park Plaza to mention one.

Boston is a small city and once you read the guide mag you will have a better idea.

I'm going to be in Boston the weekend after you (April 3-6). Staying at the Hilton Back Bay.

Is there a street that is (for lack of a better term) "very gay" -- on par with Church St (Toronto), North Halsted (Chicago) or the Castro, where one can hang out (at coffee shops, etc.) during the day? Or are the bars more spread out, with things only happening at night?

It's called Fritz's (At the Chandler inn) it is very fun. On saturday afternoon on the gay football leaguers go, some of em are really hot!

Club Cafe is right around the corner from that, that is a lot of fun as well.

I'm heading to Boston tonight actually.

There is no gay village in boston with coffee shops. You may try newbury street which is in the back bay. Lots of outside tables and clothing shops.

Also, take a stroll along tremont street in the south end and. Ask for tremont street in the south end. This street is a long street and goes through many areas of boston. If you walk from columbus avenue, down chandler street (where fritz is)
chandler street will end at tremont street in the south end.

Actually, I'm headed for Boston this weekend also. There really isn't an area in Boston that would correspond to the Castro, Chelsea, etc., but there are several bars clustered in the South End: Chandler Inn (Fritz), Luxor, Club Cafe, etc. Incidentally, if you go to the Club Cafe website http://www.clubcafe.com then go to "Community Map," you'll find a really neat interactive map to help you get around.

So, if I see a penguin waddling around Boston this entire weekend, I, will know that it is you.

If you are in the Tremont Street (south end) area, check out Francesca's coffee shop -- most popular gay coffee shop in town, breakfast all day, and some great sandwiches/salads. On Tremont, across from Hammersley's Bistro (a good restaurant, albeit rather pricey). Sorry, I don't know the cross street.

ahhh...one of my favorite cities. club cafe is good, particularly on thursdays. avalon is great on sunday nights.

If you are @ Club Cafe on Thursdays, follow the crowd across the Charles to ManRay for Campus . . . great nightclub experience, especially for the 19-26 age group such as myself!

Alas, I probably won't be going out on Thursday night (need to be fresh and perky for my business meeting on Friday!)

How's Club Cafe on Friday and Saturday nights? About what time does it get going?

And what time do the bars close? Is it like P-Town where it's 1am?

During my annual trips to Boston, Tremont Street appears to be the closest street/area for the gay crowd.
