Club Cafe is a safe bet Fri/Sat after 11pm, but it's open earlier (also a restaurant in the front).

Enjoy your weekend!

yeah, i always thought club cafe was a pre-going out place. so, i used to stop in there for a drink or two before heading elsewhere. i think you are safe 10-10:30'ish forward. but, i am sure RWHfromBOS would know best.

also, don't eat there. i had dinner there about six months ago and it wasn't very good. there are plenty of other good restaurants in the area.

Ahh....this thread brings back many fond memories of my stomping ground for my undergraduate career. *sniff*

On Friday/Saturday nights, Club Cafe is definitely a pre-going out place. The back bar can definitely get quite crowded though. Especially on Friday nights.

If you are looking to dance or more of a nightclub feel, Friday nights, your option is primarily Machine. Darren plays a fun set. As mentioned above, there's also the Eagle (The Dirty Bird) (on Berkeley & Tremont) and the Fritz on Chandler & Berkeley which are more like neighborhood bars. Club Cafe can be found on Columbus Ave, just west of Berkeley.

Saturday evenings, feel free to start out at Club Cafe again, but the nightclubs to go to that night are either Buzz or Vapor. (Though I thought I remember hearing something about Buzz being closed?? Can a current resident confirm? )

But as Yanks mentioned, Sundays at Avalon are definitely the night to go out and play in Boston. Darren is usually the DJ on Sunday nights as well.

I also heard about a mid-week night at Aria that is gay, though those mid-week things usually come and go fairly regularly. Not sure if it's still going on.

For daytime activities, if the weather's nice, nothing beats walking down Newbury St. While not in the gay neighborhood, no worries...there's always family around.

South End has a bunch of great restaurants, and has a much more neighborhood feel than Back Bay. A fun place to grab a drink in the afternoon is 647 Tremont. It's a local-type place, and definitely try the house rasberry-infused vodka....very tasty.

Sunday brunch at Acquitaine and 647 are fun and tasty too, though there's often a wait.

And if the weather should happen to be REALLY nice...e.g. sunny and hot....definitely grab a towel and head to the esplanade for some sun bathing. IIRC, there was always a gay pocket between the the first & second bridges onto the island (from the west) that you come to. Cross at the first and walk down.

Hope this helps!

Ryan
