Skylofts getting CHEAP NOW!

Was looking at the rates of the Skylofts as I will be heading there next week. I used to stay there allot back when I went to Vegas a few years ago. It seems their rates have taken a nosedive. Looking online the 1bedrooms have gone to $509/night. FHR can get it 10% off on top of that. I was always used to paying $700ish a night.

Anyways, I booked at the Wynn Encore hotel already but am considering changing now. I got the Parlor suite @ the Encore for $360 which is also astonishing considering they post $500/night on the website.

FINALLY the Luxury hotels are now starting to re-adjust their rates down. If I recall early/mid 08 they were still standard priced.

Wynn has stated that he will drop rates as low as he has to in order to keep occupancy at 90%. I've booked the smallest suite at the Encore for under USD 100 per night (list is USD 400 and they were asking for USD 240-300 in December). Wynn knows that there has to be a buzz for Vegas to be successful, and he'll make it happen. Looks like the other hotels are taking note of his success even now. They can be profitable even when the rooms are free; the room rate is mainly to keep out the riff-raff.

FHR can negotiate 15% off the published rates at Skylofts.

I stayed there in September for $433!

The published rate on MGM website was $510, FHR was quoting something like $800 but I told them about the published rate and they put me on hold and came back and said that Skylofts said they could do it for $433.

This would be the deal of the century if you got the FHR complimentary upgrade to the 2BR.

That most recent visit though seemed they were lacking in a little bit of their attention to detail...didn't get personalized stationary, no tray of chilled berries out upon arrival. Granted I was only staying one night, and got 15% off their lowest rate ever, but still.

lrickets Jan 17, 2009 2:00 pm

i don't have the special amex to be a member of fhr. ya'll think virtuoso could get just as good rates as fhr?

might want to try skyloft very soon if rates are as low as you guys said.

Kagehitokiri Jan 18, 2009 2:52 pm

great post. ^^ had not seen this for a while.

510 rates from now through march.

bummer, only 4 days of $750 for 2BR - 1/26 > 1/29. hope someone can use it.

(510/700 were old lows, but its only been 600/900 recently on calendar.)

(virtuoso/FHR = 15% discount.)

from 4/4/08 >

i'm looking to go for my b'day on April 10 & 11 (friday & sat) , but the site's rate is $2200/nite . way too much even with 15% discounted.

i hope they will drop the rates much more later. otherwise, i'm going back to palazzo for my b'day.:p

Kagehitokiri Jan 19, 2009 12:17 pm

fri/sat under $1000 >

2/20 2/21 fri sat $800
5/8 fri $800
7/31 fri $900
10/2 10/3 fri sat $900

lrickets, 1BR is not available on your birthday.
2BR $2,200
3BR $10,000
must be something going on. its the only weekend like that through november.

mctrees02 Jan 20, 2009 9:42 pm

Awesome! Thanks for passing this along. We have 3 nights of our honeymoon @ Skylofts so that saves us a few hundred per night (we were booked at 800...it's now 509). It almost makes me want to go to the 2 bdrm for 900/night (and then 10% off through Virtuoso) and hope for the upgrade to the 3 bdrm! ;)

Kagehitokiri Jan 20, 2009 10:06 pm

mctrees02, are you saying rate was $600 and virtuoso is $510, or rate was $510 and virtuoso was $430? (discount = 15%)

remember to ask about breakfast at mansion.

you could also always see if 3BR is available at checkin, and if so, buy up to 2BR, either direct, or through virtuoso.

$800 was the old rack rate and $509 the new rack rate. The Virtuoso rate is now $434. $900 is the new rack rate on a 2bdrm.

And yes...breakfast at the mansion is already booked! :)

If I book a one-night stay through Virtuoso at the $434 rate, does that still include the Maybach transfer from the airport and invited-guest private checkin? I know that sometimes when rack rates drop some of the amenities aren't included.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, it should include a Maybach transfer. Skyloft concierge will call you after your reservation for more info.

Kagehitokiri Jan 21, 2009 6:47 pm

briankoenig, its not just a 15% discount, it also includes breakfast, amenity, late checkout. IIRC virtuoso 4PM checkout is "upon availability" not guaranteed like with FHR.

i believe there is a skylofts checkin area.

also technically, we are talking about best available rates and contract rates. rack rates usually do not change, and appear to be x/$2200/$10000

briankoenig Jan 21, 2009 6:55 pm

Thanks Kagehitokiri and TAHKUCT for the quick and helpful reply. ^ With breakfast at the mansion included and the airport transfer, this sounds like too good of a deal to pass up. :)

Kagehitokiri Jan 21, 2009 7:37 pm

i would not suggest assuming they will waive breakfast charges beyond the stated credits, even though people have reported that happening.

OTOH IIRC virtuoso amenity is $100 in loft dining credit, so you could always ask to have that applied to breakfast, if they dont waive the additional cost.

(IIRC FHR amenity is $100 skyspa credit.)

MikeE Jan 22, 2009 6:10 am

Which can also be used at MGM's regular spa if you want to stretch your credit dollar.

You might be able to get the credit applied to breakfast at the mansion...here's what came from Skylofts in my updated reservation after we adjusted the rate down:

¦Complimentary round trip airport transfers in a custom Maybach 62, based upon availability and number of persons and/or luggage

¦Concierge curbside greeting with private elevator access and in-LOFT registration

¦In-Loft Espresso machine with complimentary custom selection of exclusive coffees and teas

¦Custom private bar with selection of complimentary waters and soft drinks

¦Complimentary wireless Internet access

¦Concierge reservations assistance with KÀ, Cirque du Soleil's newest performance at MGM Grand, Grand Garden Arena, MGM Grand’s Crazy Horse Paris, Hollywood Theatre and MGM Grand restaurants (Joël Robuchon at the Mansion, L'Atelier, Craftsteak, Shibuya, SEABLUE, NOBHILL, FiAMMA and Emeril's)

VIRTUOSO 2009 amenities include:

· 15% off prevailing rates

· daily Continental Breakfast to be served in-LOFT (two per one-bedroom, four for two-bedroom, six per three-bedroom)

· upgrade to next LOFT category at time of check-in, subject to availability

· $100.00 food and beverage credit* per LOFT per stay

*(no cash value, non transferable, cannot be carried over stay to stay, redeemable in-LOFT and/or at any MGM Grand restaurant or nightlife outlet)

Kagehitokiri Jan 22, 2009 9:23 am

the continental breakfast comes in the form of a credit as well.

some have reported the entire breakfast being taken care of, not just having the credit subtracted.

Your opinions are confirmed - Skylofts just achieved Mobil Five Star status.

Kagehitokiri Jan 24, 2009 9:53 am

gregnak, glad someone could take advantage of that $750 rate. :)

nice.

1/26 and 1/28 still have 2BR for $700

i hope they continue this last minute discounting

gregnak Jan 25, 2009 1:36 am

Yah i got 750 for the first night then the next 2 nights are locked in at 700 and of course i got the FHR %15 discount with the amenities... Now the only thing that could get better is a upgrade to the 3 bedroom loft for a night maybe.... If somehow i can get that to happen then its gonna be my lucky day and im gonna have to test my luck at the blackjack tables and maybe roll some dice

InnerStones Jan 25, 2009 10:33 am

good luck with the 2 to 3 bedroom upgrade, gregnak. anybody else ever get this before?

Can anyone tell me how the FHR "upgrade at check-in" process works since you check in in your loft? As in, do they automatically bring you straight to your upgraded loft without saying anything or do they confirm it with you just before you arrive? I would think it'd be strange if they customized your 1 bedroom for you already and then mention the upgrade while checking in and have to change rooms afterwards. Any input here is appreciated.

I have been taken to my 1 BR loft - at which point I asked about the upgrade. We just waited in the 1 BR while they prepared the 2 BR - about a half hour. It's happened to me both times I have stayed there...Next time, I will just call the concierge that day to confirm.

Just curious, were you traveling alone (so they're thinking you don't need the second BR and try to get away from giving you an upgrade)?

The reverse was true...I was counting on the upgrade as there were 2BR lofts available online... there were 3 of us.

Anyone ever try to come in with 7 or 8 people, counting on the upgrade? Would they just send a limo instead of the Maybach? Do they ever say anything about exceeding the 6 person max?

lastcall Feb 6, 2009 12:38 am

how can I get the Virtuoso rate at Skylofts? I've sent Virtuoso an e-mail through virtuoso.com but haven't heard back...can someone recommend a virtuoso agent for vegas? Thanks

lots of regulars in luxury hotels forum use DavidO.

Any Centurion benefits at Skylofts? Do you get any booking-time upgrades there?

We also have a group staying in the skylofts jan 28th-jan 31st for my brother's 21st birthday, its going to be a lot of fun. I didn't do the booking for this stay but I am pretty sure we got close to this rate as well. You guys are in a 1 br?

BenjaminNicholas Jan 17, 2010 7:50 pm

Now if they'd only renovate their rooms, stick to the 'noise' policy they placard on their website and stop shlepping rooms on Orbitz, it might be a 5-star property again.

... Alas, the era of SkyLofts exclusivity has come to an end. Boo.

rates are back up..

i hope aria / skysuites service is not a sign that "golden era" will never return. :(

interesting that MikeE put MO ahead of his best skylofts experiences as well. also raved about encore apt & butler (2BR from $1400)

rcbarton, gregnak paid $700 and $750 for 2BR, BEFORE 15% virtuoso/FHR discount...

base rates used to be $510/$700/$2000 before discount.

right now, 1 and 2BR base rates are higher.

BenjaminNicholas Jan 18, 2010 10:27 am

It's disingenuous to say that Encore's duplex apt 'starts' at $1400, as the rate was a once-a-year fluke and in calling my host at Encore, he said it likely wouldn't go that low but once a year in the future.

Putting any of Wynncore's high level suites above Skylofts is an easy thing to do when you compare the experiences: Wynn trains a dedicated staff of folks who can and are used to catering to people who want what they want. My experiences there have proven it. On the flip side, my last two experiences at Skylofts have been total disappointments: A staff who smiles, but accomplishes nothing. Lots of apologies, but no follow-up. It's become typical MGM service standard up there and that's just sad.

Overall, we all want the cheapo rate, but when we get cheapo service on top of it, we're pissed. I have no problem spending more if I get more, hence my trip later this month to MO... Looking very much forward to seeing if they can unsettle Steve Wynn's standard of personalized service.

no lux hotels regular has said wynncore tower delivers lux service. FS isnt much better regarded.

only skylofts got some good reports in the past.

will be interesting to see more reports from MO.

You misread my post.
I'm not talking about the run-of-the-mill tower 'suites.' I'm talking about the Fairway Villas, Fairway apts, Encore apts and Encore duplexes. Some of them are easily bookable and the service is well-above what you can get from SkyLofts (especially these days).

MikeE Jan 18, 2010 3:15 pm

I believe Kage was referring to the entry-level, 2 bedroom unit which as of a few months ago, started at $1400 per night for most nights of the year.

Last night I inquired about the duplexes again and they said they begin at $5000 and need the okay from casino to release them. Guess demand is starting to increase again. My guess is we can kiss any "reasonable" rates on ultra high roller accommodation behind until the next recession.

Kagehitokiri Jan 18, 2010 4:29 pm

fairway villas are no different than tower.. ground floor and apartment arent bookable.

MikeE suggested butler service is included with encore 2/3BR. did you get updated price on 2BR?
