MGM tried. no one else followed through. is there a reason youre assuming gaming company?

beach tower is 1BRs.

seems like they got rid of penthouses with pools too, but i keep hope alive.

Well it was Hyatt a long time ago I think. Then more recently it was supposed to be the debut of Hilton's Denizen brand (their boutique chain), but that got canned when Starwood accused Hilton of stealing confidential information.
I think the latest rumor is that it might be a Hilton and Conrad, though a Starwood property would certainly be welcome...
And Marriott was buying up land near the convention center a couple of years ago to build a big convention/gaming property. I'm sure they're sniffing around Cosmopolitan (of Las Vegas).

AFAIK, the condos were supposed to be in the condo-hotel model, so more like MGM Signature, Trump and Vdara. Not like the Veer full residential. Though I could be wrong. Assuming condo-hotels, the assumption was always that the 4,000(?) rooms would be effectively added to the city's room inventory. The delays have certainly been helpful to the market which MGM hopes can absorb some of the CityCenter supply before Cosmopolitan (and eventually Fountainbleau) open.

I wonder what gaming company will look to dabble in the property. I sure hope it's not MGM but they might want to own the west side of the strip similar to Harrah's cannibalizing much of the east side.
There are independent entities that manage casinos on behalf of property owners. So Deutsche Bank would own the entire property (less whatever condos were sold), Hilton or whoever would manage the hotel (and prob. food/beverage) aspect and somebody like The Fine Point Group would manage the casino. Of course, IMHO, this is a recipe for potential disaster given the inherent conflicts of interest between the different departments.

it seemed clear that there were residences in addition to condohotel units, unless it was going to be like palms place and trump penthouses, but these were much bigger..

no idea what final layout became.

That's completely separate, the timeshares (technically they refer to the "fractionals" when talking about the multi-week Ritz Carlton Club or Grand Residences by Marriott, not the 1-week Marriott Vacation Club.) They've suspended virtually all new development in that part of their business.

The hotel business continues to grow, though obviously new construction in saturated markets is not proceeding as quickly, which is why they would probably be considering putting their name on an existing building and not building a new property on land previously acquired. Again, just my speculation, I haven't read anything specific about Marriott.

just noticed - "grand" chateau isnt grand residences? lame.

edition is the new marriott brand that might be relevant here.

The two-tower resort will open without 987 of its rooms, with most of them opening incrementally through July next year. Cosmopolitan CEO John Unwin has said the delay will give more time to finish interior work and move furniture.

The company said Wednesday that 19 rooms would open after July 2011, when "management deems appropriate."
so opening with 2,008 rooms on dec 15

id imagine there are some larger units in that 968 and 19

Seems aggressive, especially for rooms. At their current rates, you'd get gold just from a 3-night stay in a terrace wraparound. Table games are a bit lousy compared to slot coin-in, but it's still .1 per $ wagered. Even at table games it'd be pretty easy for serious gamblers to plat that in a day.

base rates are low, especially for wraparound.

from
$135-$335
to
$400-$720

Actually once you attain Grazie Gold, it only takes $1.5K in spend to maintain Grazie Gold (Gold/Platinum = 20 points per $1 spend @ V/P).

The 'trick' is to status-match to Grazie Gold; then you can basically maintain it forever with the 20pts/$1 spend. ;)

But, be warned, Grazie Gold has very little value; it's all about Grazie Platinum Status.

Not surprised about the table games. I haven't been following, but do they list an 'exact' ratio/formula for table game point earning?

Harrah's DIAD (Diamond in a Day) is still one of the best deals out there; with regards to play for status, IMHO.

how do the upgrades work?

Not particularly well (for Grazie Gold). One level, which basically means an upgrade to a view room. But, you can basically get a view room on almost any COMP room by asking nicely. Technically if booked in a View-Luxury (or Bella); it should upgrade to the next category (such as Fortuna, non-view) -- but there aren't that many of those; so booking a view category would be risky in that case. Prestige (Concierge) is definitely NOT an upgrade for Grazie Gold and can be purchased at check-in; or in addition to other upgrades (unless included in your casino offer).

Unless your casino offer includes as 'pre-upgrade' your best bet is to always book a bella (two bedded standard suite) @ V/P; since they often need two bedded rooms, and you can score an upgrade to a Fortuna or Hospitality 1 bedroom (or equivalent) if you are willing to take a larger suite with a king bed.

"V/P" is big on revenue upgrades (of comp and non-comp rooms); they are slightly negotiable, but it costs $$$ nonetheless.
