comp discussion
After reading some of the threads here, particulary the Wynn one, it would appear that slot players (video poker excluded) get much better treatment than table game people.
I play only penny slots (but full coin, $2.00 to $4.00 per spin.) I stick with Harrahs (Total Rewards) and MGM-Mirage properties only. As a Diamond Total Rewards member, I can book, via the internet (I don't like dealing with hosts, I feel I am asking for a "handout"), even on weekends, in most properties rooms as "free" (under the official promo) or "comped", either way it is $0.00 that I am paying. In the MGM system, I get offers where the rooms (and in many cases food) are "free" upfront. [Note: Borgata Casino in AC, is linked with the Boyd-MGM system, you can use your comp dollars to get certificates which can be used at any linked casinos--these can be used as cash--they cover tips, room charges, food etc., which oddly, tips are NOT covered with comps at Borgata.] It seems to me that having to "beg" for something is very demeaning. [I overheard a conversation at Monte Carlo, a man who had gambled "big bucks" at table games, was asking a slot host to comp him for charges to his room, they would cover most items, but NOT pay-per-view videos on the TV; this seems very petty. My Borgata certificates would cover this:).] |
we "might" want to link this thread to the COMP THREAD that was previously started... :D
yes, I basically agree --- slot players are always treated better (why NOT, the hold is anywhere from 10% to 20%). I disagree that VP players are NOT treated well. Yes, they are NOT treated as well as they were ONLY a few years ago --- but, when you consider the difference : Slots : House edge 10% to 20% Video Poker : House edge 1% to 2% It sort of makes sense. I also agree that HET is very fair with upfront COMP rooms for VP players. They also provide a lot of tournament and special offers (free cash, gift cards, spa visits) to relatively low rollers. Now your comment : It seems to me that having to "beg" for something is very demeaning. Now, I do respect that some can't deal with this --- but, the COMP SYSTEM is a big game... Remember, the casinos do lots of things to us : - they modify the payouts on slots - they cut the paytables at video poker - they are vague about how comps are earned - they talk in generalities - they are trying to WIN ALL OF YOUR MONEY --- So, just look at it as WAR --- you against them... This is NOT asking for a FREE bottle of champers at the St. Regis in NYC because it is your birthday --- this is getting what you DESERVE for your action. Also, you mention : I overheard a conversation at Monte Carlo, a man who had gambled "big bucks" at table games, was asking a slot host to comp him for charges to his room, they would cover most items, but NOT pay-per-view videos on the TV; this seems very petty. $1500 in free food --- and I settle $12 in movies to my AMEX -- not a big deal, IMHO. It is the player that needs to get over-himself with regard to paying for the videos. :D so, nrr... GO OUT THERE and take them for everything you can! IT'S WAR!!!!!! :D:D edit to add : If you are doing on average 1,000 tier (base) points per day at an HET property ($10,000 coin in VP or $5,000 coin-inSlots) -- you should be visiting a host before check-out to remove some charges (discretionary) from your room FOLIO --- after you have exhausted (used all) of your RCs (Reward Credits). |
