KLM Refund Question

When I refund my ticket ( V-Class 171€)
do I get refunded everything les the ticket price (39€) and refund fee (15€) or do they also keep the 60€ (YQ fuel surcharge).

I think they must refund everything except the ticket price (less 15€ process fee)
Am I right? what are your experiences?

Regards
Thomas

KLM - JNB-Europe

I also need a refund, as I booked a ticket for someone else from Johannesburg, who now cannot travel due to inability to get UK visa. (Its not that they cant get visa, but that they cant get VISA appointment)

GRR at the new visa requirement for SA nationals!

Who can I contact in SA to get a refund on this?

No, I don´t think they have to refund everything, but only government taxes, and I am pretty sure KLM do not refund anything else. The ´fuel surcharge´ is a joke anyway. KLM I believe do not refund this, as it seems neither does eg BA (no personal experience, but they make this fairly clear in the booking process). AF until recently refunded everything, but I don´t know if that is still the case.

For me personally, as much as I would like the refund, it is that I don´t think we can have the cake and eat it: they should abolish the surcharges, and at least our miles would be worth a bit more again.

For intra-European V and N fares, the KLM website states:
"Airport taxes that are not used can be refunded. The fuel surcharges mentioned with tax code YR/YQ are non-refundable if a non-refundable ticket was issued."

This statement does not show up when you look for an intra-European E fare,
so maybe they are more generous in these cases.

I think this is a recent development.

KLM told me that trips starting & booked in France, Latvia, Italy, Portugal, Malta, Spain CAN get the YQ back.

So it must be local laws or competition reasons that this is the case.

What about AF which countries do they offer this for?

What does the European Commission think about refunds of fuel surcharges?
