I can't guarantee, but I think I remember, that in the crown lounge in Terminal D (non-schengen) smoking is still possible... Though my memory might play a trick on me (too many lounges ;-) )

thanks for that info.

Is there any news yet about what will happen after 1 July? I hope KLM isn't going to claim some kind of exemption on the grounds that it's a private lounge...

I haven't got a problem with smoking in the Schengen lounge (where the smoking area is well out of the way) but find it rather unpleasant in the non-Schengen ones, especially the one nearest D/E (can never remember the numbers) where it's impossible to go to the washroom or the food area without being exposed to smoke.

That's exactly what they are doing!

I don't know whether the issue has been resolved yet.

Yes, smoking is allowed in the lounges, and most likely will continue forever under the private club rules. It is almost a given. Once it goes through they will put a glassed in area in the non-Schengen lounges.

With both current non-Schengen lounges due to close in the near future, that's not very likely.

I presume the new non-Schengen lounge will have a sealed smokers area. Once it opens (August is the latest I heard), lounge 52 will close for renovations, after which it will reopen as an extension to the new lounge. Lounge 41 will then close permanently, which will no doubt be greatly appreciated by all those departing from the D pier/concourse.

What is the current status of smoking areas in Schipol? The last time I was through there there was a small smoking booth adjacent to a bar.

The smoking booths still exist. If you have lounge access there are also smoking rooms inside the two KLM lounges - but be aware they are closed for cleaning for half-hour periods several times during the day.

Thanks for the update and the info on the lounge smoking areas!

It's a big airport with a lot of private areas where you can light up. You might get reprimanded but that's about it - holland only recently started to take public smoking seriously.

The Irish Pub on D concourse (Non Schengen) has a smoking room out the back.
