MH Leaving ?

Talking to the "helpdesk" tonight <sigh> as part of my 2 month process of getting 4 reward seats <sigh sigh> and the agent said she didn't want to book MH for me as they will be leaving the program next month ?

Have I missed soemthing ?

ralfkrippner Feb 17, 2004 5:45 am

Huh???

That would be shocking...!

I mean on such a short notice...!

I see the danger that MH will leave the partnership with KLM for some time. And I had some bad feeling booking a trip in Oct 03 for May 04 as I choose MH mainly because of the possibility to get award and status miles on KL...

But on a one months notice...!?!

I have just sent an email to a contact at FD and hope I can post some information here shortly.

Ralfkrippner,

Bit disappointed you had to take a whole 3 mins to reply http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Empress over at AC usually manages 2 mins http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Perhaps this will co-incide with the first phase of FD's integration with the Air France FF programme?

Or maybe KLM will start flying to SYD again??

Can they do that? I just booked a flight with MH yesterday. Even though it was slightly more expensive i went with them for the FD points.

Do we know what date in March?

This is very dissapointing and another kick in the teeth from KLM. Espically not informing us!!!!! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/mad.gif

O.K., hold the breath... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

I got a quick reply from a 'usually good informed source' within FD / FD management.

Thats KLM's version of the answer but I wonder what Malaysian are saying. KLM's ability to spread the truth is famous.

KL's relation with MH is difficult, at least from an operational point of view.
KUL remains KL's weakest destination in Asia, together with BKK. The problem is that MH still hasnt alligned the departure times of its Australia flight to the arrival times of the flights from AMS, leading to overnights in KLIA etc.
The plan for the summer schedule (latest I heard in Dec) was that they want to make SIN a 777 turnaround (SIN cargo position was said to have deteriarated) and to make the KUL flight end in JKT (always good for plenty of low yield pax). MNL was said to be doing OK and would be direct.

Only thing I dont get is; Can SIN alone fill a flight?

I thought BKK should be one of the cah-cow route.

and what's this "SIN cargo position was said to have deteriarated"? care to explain more?

Would love to but cannot, because I dont know. Just what heard it from KL staff.
I was also surprised, since I think SIN can carry a daily service on cargo, but on pax....?

The problem with BKK seems to be the tail end to TPE. I also thought this was one of their better routes, although many tourists to BKK of course.

Steve Fenton Feb 18, 2004 2:23 am

BKK to TPE has always been busy with PAX, only when SARS was around did I see low numbers of PAX but still they were full on cargo

simonsmith Feb 18, 2004 3:33 am

We have to go to KUL a lot and usually end up flying to SIN instead with KLM and then hoping up as the fares are better and there is usually more availability.
