I think the problem with BKK is the intense competition, and very low fares, relative to other nearby destinations. C-class fares regularly go for about EUR1400 - expect at least double for KUL. You see this (although not so low) on other carriers too...

I would be VERY interested in the validity of this. I plan to book a flight (AMS-KUL-SYD return in September) within one week, on Malaysian. The points would be a big bonus. However the leg room (34") is great on Malaysian in economy so all would not be lost. Also the flight is still one of the cheapest around.

PLEASE, somebody post a definite answer on this as soon as possible.

Also, I see no reason why KLM joining Skyteam would be a factor if KLM and Malaysian split. Malaysian would be a prime candidate for membership of Skyteam. Korean Air covers north-east Asia, but there is a big gap in the south-east Asia/Australia markets. Singapore, Thai and Air New Zealand are with Star Alliance. Qantas and Cathay in Oneworld. Although there have been rumours that Thai might be leaving Star. So it may decide to join Skyteam.

I think it is likely that Malaysian will be a member of Skyteam in the near future.

Our relationship with Malaysian Airlines is very good.
For this reason we have no intention to end our relationship with Malaysian at the moment.

OK, so their relationship is good enough for them to not have the intention to end it at the moment. Not a very strong wording, IMHO. Will be interesting to see what happens...

The problem is that MH still hasn't aligned the departure times of its Australia flight to the arrival times of the flights from AMS, leading to overnights in KLIA etc.

Well we are booked in First Class on a MH flight this week SYD-AMS and the MH schedule from OZ is actually quite well connected.

MH 122 - SYD-KUL 1600 - 2100
MH 16 - KUL-AMS 2359 - 0625

Was booking seats with MH today (row #1 both ways!) and asked the lady here if they had heard anything about a problem with KLM service. She had not and was rather surprised to hear it was even being gossiped about. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Thanks to Ralf for getting some official input on this. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/thumbsup.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/thumbsup.gif

As MH the ONLY way from oz to earn or spend KL miles I sure hope this does not come to fruition. In a month ... or a year. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Hey Ozstamps....How did you manage to get in F on MH? I didn't think they allowed F awards on MH. Or have you run out of FD miles and using cash now ? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Your Travel agent can add your FD number into the booking or MH reservations can do it (just give them a call). And of course the airport checkin and gate people can do it.
