Stopover on Award Tickets ?

I still canīt find any information if award tickets do allow a Stopover (or two ?). This would open some interesting opportunities.

Any ideas ?

I was just told that both Coach and b-class awards include a single free stop-over in the "same zone". So if you're flying to North America from Europe, you can add any Canadian or US city they serve. If flying in Europe, you should be able to add your favorite European city to the itin at no cost.

Can others confirm this is so?

You're allowed one free stop-over ONLY in a HUB in the same zone. In the US, that'd be DTW, MEM or MSP. When I booked on KLM metal and asked for a stop-over in NYC en route to SFO, they took out a few extra miles for that "free stop-over".

If I am using miles to travel wholly within a single zone (i.e., LHR-AMS-ZRH) would I be entitled to a free stopover at AMS?

This is the information copied from an e-mail that I received from the FD complaint department:

A stopover is a planned break of more than 24 hours on an international trip. One FREE stopover per route is permitted to members per international round trip award.

Conditions
1. Free stopovers are not permitted within a region
2. Free stopovers are only allowed in an international gateway city
3. Only ONE free stopover is allowed per journey
4. Additional stopovers are allowed, but these should be charged

Gateway cities:
BOS, JFK, LGA, EWR, IAH, DTW, ORD, MDW, SEA, SFO, LAX, MEX, ATL, MEM, MIA, HNL, KUL, BKK, NRT, HND, HKG, SIN, NBO, FRA, CDG, ORY, LHR, LGW, STN, AMS, BOM, DEL, MSP

I hope that that clears things up for you.

One Way? Is a stopover allowed?

Round trip being a return. Stop overs are not possible on a one way trip.
