The following reply to an e-mail query was posted on the KLMuk forum :
"Thank you for your e-mail. May we first apologise for our delayed reply. In reply to your questions, we do not have all the information that you request at the present time. We will inform all members of further details in an upcoming press release. It is fair to say however that the new changes are not designed to alienate KLM's best customers so I'm sure that the new program will not be a disappointment to you.* It really is not necessary to view this in such a negative light. The Helpdesk will gladly assist you with any further questions or remarks you might have. Please find our telephone numbers at the bottom of this e-mail. Yours sincerely, Flying Dutchman Helpdesk" *my emphasis johan |
It sounds very promising, that all KLM people are so sure we will not be disappointed !!!! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

HA! Don't count on it.
United just DOUBLED the points price of most International upgrades. The reason? "Our customers were confused with the old system and this was done to make life a lot easier and smoother and more convenient for them" or words to that effect. ------------------ ~ Glen ~ Calling all United 1K Members - please join .. www.1Kflyers.com |
Ok some "improvements" from united. terrible !
Let's hope KLM will interpret the word "improvements" in a different and better way !!! |
Well, KLM has promised that we will NOT be disappointed, so we better not be! It's interesting how people sometimes make rods for their own backs!

This afternoon I got hold of a copy of the printed version of the August/September Flying Dutchman News (nope, not the one I get in the mail with my points statement, that will probably arrive about six weeks late, like usual).
Most of the issue is devoted to the new FD program, including some information that has not been published in the online version. Some excerpts : "At the time of implementation, you current FD points will automatically be converted into Miles without effecting the actual value of your Award Balance" (my emphasis) "You might have some difficulty contacting us or accessing our Internet site for a short period during the implementation of the new program". "the FD News that you now have in hand is the last to be published in the current format". "We will be featuring a number of unique promotions and events to celebrate the launch of the new program". "The program book has a new layout". "We will be mailing you full details regarding the new program [...] shortly". There are also pictures of the four new cards. johan |

Unles they *charge* 1.8 times (or whatever, coff, coff) more for all awards I can't see how they can state this so clearly. ------------------ ~ Glen ~ Calling all United 1K Members - please join .. www.1Kflyers.com |

Yesterday I also laid my hands on the latest issue of the FD Magazine, which is mailed to FD members in the Netherlands only (to compensate them for earning so few points, I guess! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif )
It mainly contains aviation related general interest articles, but the following tidbits may be of interest. - They are very circumspect about the impending changes to the FD program. A small notice hints at "good news" and "a surprise". The only concrete information is the advice not to discard one's old card. More information is promised in "the next issue". As the magazine is published quarterly, this could be three months from now. -New e-ticket destinations : HUY LBA MME NCL CWL STR NUE HAY ATH EDI BRU GOT and MEX. -In an interview, executive vice president Paul Gregorowitch promises rapid improvement and expansions of e-services. The considerable savings which are expected will be used to "fulfill the customers' wishes". Honest, he really says that. From now on, the number one priority will be to provide the quality that the customer wants to pay for. More "customer panels" will be created. Communication with the customers will be improved. He also admits that the service reductions in Y on certain Europeans routes have "possibly" gone too far. Finally, he says that the cornerstone of the new FD programs is that loyalty must be earned, whatever that means. -There's an interesting article on the luggage problems at Schiphol. € 9 million is being invested by KLM and Schiphol in temporary measures to mitigate the problems. There are still difficulties with the implementation of the expanded automated luggage system, and post-9/11 security issues have exacerbated matters. 160 extra staff have been hired to man a manual sorting facility on the D platform. Efforts to integrate the new automated system (BAS) and the old system are still underway. Several of the baggage sorting cellars have been closed, as new regulations require the installation of sprinklers and fire doors. A new explosives screening system is also being installed. The resulting lack of space means that a temporary facility has been constructed on the platform, mainly for regional and intercontinental flights. Another facility near the E concourse, manned by KLM staff, also handles intercontinental flights. The automated system is used only for departing European flights. This means that a lot of luggage has to be transfered between the various facilities. The expectations are that the automated system will be fully operational in May 2003. johan |
