e-check in

Been trying to check in online for the KL878 BKK-AMS tonight since it was supposed to open at the 30 hours point. The website keeps saying "flight not yet open for check in". Has the system really been down for the last 16 hours? Is anyone else getting this problem?

This is quite common, and there is usually a reason for it. For example, they may not yet have finalised the equipment.

Also, do you have a connecting flight from AMS? You can't check in until your connecting flight is open too. Sometimes (in my experiences) connecting flights are open before the 30 hours for the benefit of connecting passengers, but more often than not they are not.

If you phone the number in the right-hand corner of the check-in screen they will be able to tell you why check-in isn't yet open. If you're very lucky the response might even be "I can see no reason why we can't open it now, give it five minutes and I'll open it for you".

Yes, and yes. Certain bulkhead/exit rows may only be available to elites, though. (In theory, that is. The other day three non-elite colleagues of mine checked in online for various KL flights. All were able to select seats in the not-so-Select Seating zone.).

On my personal experience in intra EU and NA flights, each time you access to echeck in, you have an interesting tool enabling you to choose a good range of seats - including exits- ; for how much time, I donno, since it's quite opposite to AF policy, where exits are only delivered against a physical presence, leading these seats generally reserved when you reach airport, anytime early you get...

In my experience, whether connecting flights at AMS are open or not does not affect the OLCI for the longhaul segment. When I check in from CGK at the 30-hour point, sometimes the connecting flight is open, and sometimes it's not. In the latter case, I can check in for the CGK-AMS segment only.

Update

The e-check in for KL878 BKK-AMS on 05/04 finally allowed me into the system about 6 hours before departure. Rather strange, as in my previous experiences with the facility it has reliably opened at the 30 hour point.

Still managed to get 77K though, so all was well in the end

No. Afaik BA are one of the few in europe (if not the only) who propose upgrades at checkin (from LGW at 50GBP one way).

Is there a way on KLM to hceck the seat map prior to the flight opening. On AF I am able to check it by KVS tools but on KLM it seams to be working only for biz class I am unable to see the econnomy class.

I would like to suggest my TA a few seats to book for me and usually prefer seing them first
Any help would be appriciated

now also on AF-handled flights

We've waited but...
Internet check-in is now also available where AF does the handling in their antiquated system for KL flights.
And on their own operated flights too.
So it's again available from stations like CDG and FRA where it was stopped when AF did ground handling.
