PE lounge access changes?
Apologies if someone else picked up on this but I couldn't find anything in search. Latest edition of FD news
Once KLM joins the SkyTeam alliance, more than 400 SkyTeam lounges of all SkyTeam partners will become available for Platinum and Gold Elite members. Platinum and Gold Elite members will then enjoy lounge access to KLM lounges when flying KLM, or a KLM or SkyTeam airline partner, and to SkyTeam lounges when flying KLM or a SkyTeam airline partner. |
I guess this is deliberate, and means that PE access to lounges will only be when flying KL or Skyteam. Part of the overall process of reducing the benefits of FD - so that when FD is subsumed into the AF programme (with its miserable benefits), it isn't such a huge shock.
I'd expect to see a lot more of this sort of thing over the next year - small and largely unpublicised reductions in benefits. As someone else has said, why can't we have a *A service from NCL?? |
It says when KL join Skyteam, when is that supposed to be happenning ?.
They certainly haven't stopped it yet as I got in the lounge at HKG a few weeks ago while flying on SQ. It would be a(nother) blow for sure. |
|
Joe Brancatelli wrote in his newsletter some weeks ago that the date for KL, CO and NW joining skyteam will be Sept. 13th.

Thanks Johan, this rang the faintest of bells, but I couldnt find it.
Phew! (for the moment!). |
Thanks for the heads up, Johan !
Always good to get help from Flyertalkers who usually know more than average FD staff ;) BTW, used the ECC lounge at FRA three times the last month while flying LH and migrating from the overcrowded Senator lounge to less crowded United Red Carpet Club. Absolutely no problem at all, staff will write down your PE number and that`s it ! |

Well, there's always the daily 'Auf Wiedersehen Pet' NCL-DUS LH service.
Not that that's brilliant for connections... |

Hope you all bothered to get the status match :) I did indeed :) But i think it will just be a LH type of service to NCL. Maybe one daily flight in the afternoon which wont be any good for connections. The truth is the we all fly KLM because they offer the best connections and we know that if we are delayed on the way to AMS then the next NCL flight wont be more then a few hours away. |

johan According to the link provided below ( Sorry, only in german ) the entrance fee for up to 4 hours is Euro 16 , a good investment based on the usual airport prices for snacks and drinks. Its proximity to the Sky Train station makes the lounge easy to use ( you basically reach any point of FRA within 10-15 minutes) They offer sandwiches and cakes, which come from LH catering and are comparable to what LH offers in the SEN lounges.Open bar is also available, but there is a charge for the two computers though. Not the best lounge in the world, but it is free to KL Platinum Elites and worth a short stop while getting from the overcrowded B SEN lounge to the nice Red Carpet Club. To be honest I always take sections of the Sunday Times with me, the Sport and Travel sections are outstanding and the LH lounges only have the german sunday newspapers :td: http://www.frankfurt-airport.de/cms/..._city_club.htm |
Thanks for the info Threy. Reading German is not a problem, but writing and speaking it is something else! Die Deutsche Grammatik ist wirklich schwer!
I rarely use FRA, when I do it is on an AMS-FRA-JNB-FRA-JNB itinerary, which entails tranfers between LH (A) and SA (B). I understand the ECC lounge is conveniently located for this? (certainly much better than the Sky Club lounge used by KL in the boondocks of terminal 2E!) On what basis do PEs have free access to the ECC lounge? No invitation required? Thanks. johan |
Johan,
the lounge is indeed located very conveniently for your usual transfer. If you leave the Sky Line on the second stop ( B gates ), turn left after taking the escalator down to the gate levels. The lounge is only 50 yards away. You have to show your card to the staff and they will write down your name and number, no invitation needed for KLM Platinum Elite card holders |
