Carfield ably documented the March/April BOS>SFO brunch a few days ago, but I thought I'd add a couple photos of my own since my choices were slightly different. I was especially impressed with the sweet potato and black bean breakfast burrito. How they managed to make the tortilla so tender yet keep it from being soggy, I'll never know.
Truth be told, everything was spectacular except the pretzel bread, which was stale and tasteless. Everyone who's seen the photos thinks it's a sausage, so perhaps that should be my story. https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1546/...92b739_z_d.jpg https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1535/2...3118a7_c_d.jpg |
Just had another spectacular Mint flight. Everything was exquisite, but the chili was particularly memorable. Loved the hint of smoke.
For search engine purposes I'll mention that this was the April 2016 eastbound lunch/dinner menu, but otherwise I'll let the pictures do the talking. https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1449/2...7c5534_c_d.jpg https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1562/...e2b177_z_d.jpg https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1535/2...2d475c_z_d.jpg https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1679/...04269d_z_d.jpg |
Agree that the black bean burrito is a crisp winner on the current brunch menu... wish the omelet, pancakes and stale cold pretzel roll were better... quality seems to be slipping.

Westbound/Southbound Mint May 2016

I think this menu qualifies as one of my favorite Mint menus to date.
The chilled tomato soup with lobster was delicious, and there were plenty of lobster meats. The Kale Cobb salad was also fabulous, but they forgot to add the chicken confit. I had this dish before with chicken, which was even more delicious. The Ravioli was also nice, but it was a bit stingy to have only two pieces of ravioli - not even a particularly large piece too, as you could tell from the pictures. The disgusting iced cold bread roll remained the issue. JetBlue needs to start warm up the breads, or uses any type of breads that will be good when served cold. The kale salad was on the November 2014 menu as a Greek salad. It was almost identical to the current salad, but also with feta instead of bacon. I remember ordering it. I remember it vivdly as it was my first (and probably last!) taste of kale. (and learned a very valuable lesson - I don't like raw kale!) The rest of it was quite delicious, although the avocado wasn't green anymore.

Just curious if any Mint-ers here have asked for additional entrees after their initial serving of three plates. The portion sizes seem to vary quite a bit. Are the FAs receptive to serving extras?
|
Assuming that the catering practice hasn't changed, (they cater 16 plates of everything), it certainly is possible, but I don't know if they'd do it in practice.

I think the Buy On Board products are also available to Mint? I was on a flight last year in the 2nd row of EMS and I wanted to buy a Greek yogurt. When they got to me, they had already sold out in the Mint cabin.

Just flew a dinner flight JFK-LAX. 4 of the five options had either pork or shellfish in them. Not too easy if you are kosher or vegetarian!

Food looks good . . . but taste?
I've been flying Mint since inception and have noticed an ongoing decline in the food quality as Mint matures. Sure, it looks pretty. But now it's not consistently tasty. Yesterday was first time in two years that I've had to ask for replacement choices, although I've been tempted to do so on prior two flights.
The decision-makers are failing to consider what works at 36,000 feet. So the Angus beef slider with bacon jam can only be successful if it doesn't arrive on an ice-cold pre-toasted bun. They ought to have described the dish as one of their "served chilled" selections, honestly -- the cheese of course was not even partially softened sitting on the cold bun). The FA explained that they cannot heat any of the breads. So, given this limitation, B6 would be better off sticking to high-moisture hot dishes that will survive the limited capabilities of the galley equipment. Ditch the burgers and go for boneless spare ribs or the chili, or whatever. JetBlue is trying to keep things interesting with variety, but the experimentation should not be performed on the pax. Halibut was like leather and fishy (I don't mean that in a good way), to boot. So that meant two out of the three hot choices flunked. Mint remains a very good product, but now that it's been expanded to more routes, it's time for B6 to reevaluate the menu and cabin-service procedures to make it an excellent product once again. |
